Hey everyone, Im thinking about buying/ upgrading my exhaust system for my 2017 Taco Off Road 4x4. Is it even worth upgrading the exhaust from the stock one? if so which brand or exhaust would you go with? Thanks for the advice

The only thing an "upgrade" will do is give you different sounds. I'll probably do this eventually myself. But if your looking to increase performance, exhaust swapping won't do you good.

What does 'upgrade' mean to you?

If its like baseball cards in your bike spokes, you're golden. :D

I guess by upgrade I would mean performance wise.. like more horsepower or better gas mileage or something.. I know the noise would be different but I already have an exhaust tip that came with the truck and like the sound it currently makes, I probably wouldnt want it to be any louder as that would be annoying. I have already upgraded the intake system just looking for something else to upgrade/improve that isnt going to cost me thousands of dollars. Any suggestions on upgrades that are easy to install or get done that are reasonable in price

That was my point. Noise is about your only option.

Just like whatever your intake upgrade was (sorry, no offense) you added noise. Only. And if you significantly altered the OE CAI function, you may have actually lost some power.

I think what most folks miss is that OEs are always on quest for both mpg and power. If a muffler and different intake configuration would gain even 1 and 1, they'd do it.

And when intakes/exhausts are altered w/o a corresponding ECU change.......... nada.

Not only do our Cat-back kits add a more aggressive tone to your ride they are first and foremost designed to increase performance. The piping that we use in our Cat-back systems is generally larger over stock which helps your Tacoma breathe easier. The mufflers included in our systems will "scavenge" the exhaust gases and increase output flow. Our R&D Department dyno tunes the system for maximum performance. Not only do our Cat-back and Axle-back systems increase horsepower and torque we have also seen a increase in MPG's with our products. I encourage you to give us a call at 707-544-4761 to discuss a Cat-back option for your Tacoma.

I used MBRP. It's loud, no drone, but I have a MT. You can hear it in the cab for sure. It was cheap. I paid <$300 for the full stainless cat back.

Best of all, it improved my average fuel economy by 1MPG over 5+ tanks! That's a win in my book!

So one kind of lower key 'performance' gain that drove me to try out the mbrp turndown was that it terminates before the rear axle. This eliminates nearly all chance that the exhaust will interfere with something, or worse, smash up my bedsides, while I'm out wheeling.

But besides that, I mostly did it for brap brap

Yes. Especially when the dealership sends out those coupons for 30% off parts and accessories. They didn't like me that day when I called 'em on their BS list price trying to cover the coupon.

I work them down to their best price, usually a price match, then slap the coupon down.
