    How much of a difference do you think it might be, loaded vs unloaded.
    Currently the rear is like a bucking bronco, especially at higher speeds.

    I have those in the rear, they're awesome. Worlds better than the 5100s that were back there.

    Well if you go dakars, they will droop to about 25ish inches and you will limit downtravel w the first gen generic shocks with resi by just under 4” wich leaves you with the question of limit uptravel or downtravel, then begs the question do u play in rocks or race through washes...alcans or deavers not sure what their leaf cycle is exactly, but if you look at my build page you can see what i went with and why.

    I’m running the same shocks, no complain, does the job. Although theres a big ordeal about knotching the shocks bracket. 2nd gen taco, don’t know about 1st gen

    yup no notching for 1st gens. I just clamped the resi to the shock and ran them as piggy backs, but you have to be mindful of where the resi is on the shock body relative to the frame, leaf springs and exhaust under the bed. Don't want the hose or the reservoir itself hitting any of those things when the truck is bouncing around.

    @Nicklovin I currently have the HS 3 leaf AAL packs on my stock leafs with these Icons, TBH it rides fantastic especially with the added weight of the RTT. I was really surprised in Mojave, the only downside is that they don't hold a lot of weight well. And with no weight in the bed they're pretty stiff. Mine went flat with all the weight I had on that trip back there (still didn't have any issues with the rear bump stops, surprisingly). They went back to their original height though when I took the weight out.

    I'm looking at the OME leaf pack for 1st gens, Dakars I think. They're pretty affordable compared to some of the other options out there. If you can swing a Wheeler's pack though I'd go for that.

    @Nicklovin if your stock leaf pack is tired and flat you're better off replacing it with a new pack than adding an AAL or 3 to it. A 3 leaf AAL will breathe a little more life into them but not for long. I only went with it at the time because my stock pack only had 30k miles on it then.

    Glad to hear that. Thought I was going crazy as soon as I worried about clamping the reservoir and it getting hit by other parts of the vehicle while bouncing around. Still going to clamp it on though as I don't want to drill any new holes into my frame that could make my rust worse :anonymous:.
    So if I'm reading right, a dakar or wheelers leaf pack would help smoothen the ride out when the bed isn't loaded.

    Your leafs will be giving you the most liftthe shocks are there for dampening the rebound. Dakars on an unweighted bed wil give you plenty of lift and these will definitely help give you a more stable ride. Just boils down to what you want out of your rear suspension. I literally just went theough all this in the last two weeks.

    I've had them on my 2nd gen for about 15 months, way better than the 5100's I took off. Paired with AllPro standard leafs it just gets smooth as silk the faster I go. Around town the Icon's digressive valving means they ride stiffer than Fox/King, but get some speed and they turn into butter.

    until you run out of compression... They plateau and there is only so much compression valuing you can put into a digressive shock. better upgrade than 5100s?. sure, slightly. just don't expect them to ride like a King or Fox shock. there is a reason why Icons are $275 and king/fox are $900+

    There are also multiple levels of icon shocks. You can get the generic, a solid upgrade from 5100’s or go custom dual bipass and spend $1500. 5100’s cant touch the quality of those shocks

    5100 over 4600's yes.

    But even 5100"s 5160s have a great difference
