Agreed with @demo243 air shocks and hydraulic brakes are usually the mark that everything else is sound.

My fork comment is kinda funny. Cheap bikes have bad coil forks, good/great bikes have air forks, and then high end forks/great riders start looking at coils again. The difference is quality.

I'd post a photo of my Scott Genius 720 plus but its literally in 100 pieces as the front fork is being rebuilt, the front and rear brakes are being bled with all pads being replaced, my dropper post is getting new gaskets and I threw in a new saddle to start the season off right.

Looks like Ill be riding my Framed Minnesota 3.0 fat bike until its done.IMG_5624.jpg

Just picked up a new take off 27.5+/29 Yari and barely ridden Race Face AR40 wheelset with icetech rotors and Rekon 2.8 tires setup tubeless for my build. I suppose 40mm rims are a bit much for 2.6 tires and would square them off? Thinking 35 would have been the best compromise for 2.6 and 2.8s.

When you guys say 35 or 40mm rims is that true internal width or outside width?

    Yeah.
You should be fine, I ran 2.8's on 45mm rims and they weren't too squared off.

Hah, I’m at the other extreme! I upsized to a 2.5 front Minion on my 19mm internal rims (29-er) and while they are awesome for straightline stability in sand and steep downhill braking traction, the cornering is pretty wobbly. I could build up new wheels but it’s getting hard to find new wheel sets that aren’t boost.

    Yeah.
Eeek! That's narrow for those tires for sure. I imagine for wider width rims, Boost is now pretty much assumed. Universal Cycles does wheel building and you can select your hub, rim and spokes. Maybe a little more than buying a complete wheelset, but you get exactly what you want. Just for giggles I just went on their site and configured a non-Boost wheelset with DT Swiss 350 hubs, WTB Scraper i40 rims and DT Swiss Champion spokes and the total was $664. Not bad, might be able to upgrade to DT Swiss rims for a little bit more.

I'm rolling 2.4s on 27 rims. 19 is super skinny.

I love my DT350 hubs too! Have the perfect amount of buzz to them.

For the last 3 seasons I've been on 2.4" High Rollers on I think 21mm internal rims setup tubeless. (Stock Giant Trance wheelset). Did not have any issues, but then again in real life they are just shy of 2.3" as is typical for Maxxis.

Hey, I’m looking for an excuse to get wider rims. Don’t muddy it up with facts! Of course, my wife has wide carbon rims on her bike, but I just bought some sliders for the Taco so I can’t go that far.

New bike day!!!!! Wahhooo! And the trails open Monday!

    Here's the new shred sled - Marin B17 3 27.5+

    20180412_200547.jpg

Still got a few things to dial in... dropper cable needs to be shortened, convert the tires to tubeless and dial in the rear derailleur... but I got a couple days to do that.

    Yeah.
Not bad for a full wheelset, especially if they are the hub width you need. I think 35mm is a good rim width, you can probably still run 2.4" tires if you want, but even 3.0 will work fine.

They close some of the local trails to mountain biking for "mud season" typically the month of March and maybe some of april. My favorite local spot reopens on the 16th.
