Tacoma's about to be included in re-call!!

I just got back from my dealer today after getting approved for new leaf springs and the service rep told me that my truck would be included in the recall to have the gas pedal "shortened". He said that the gas pedal would have to be "shaved". WHAT IN THE HELL!?!?
I have a 2010 Sport 4x4 with 2700 miles, half of which were caused by having to drive back and forth to the damned dealership to fix shit. What is going on? I can't believe this shit with Toyota. I bought it so that I could have something reliable and worry free, at least I thought.
So get ready, you all will be getting your notice to have your gas pedal cut!

 

Even if I do get a recall for this, I aint bringing it in. My pedal length has never caused me any problems. Bringing it in would be a waste of time IMO

 

You don't have to get it done. But if your pedal sticks, you can't blame them.

 

This is what they did to my wife's Camry so I am sure this will be pretty similar when they do the Tacomas.

1st-Take gas pedal out
2nd- Put a template on the gas pedal and trace how much they will need to cut off the bottom.
3rd-Put in a vice and use a hack saw to cut off about 3/4 inch off the bottom of the pedal. They they use a sander to smooth out any rough edges. Looks factory
4th-Take up carpet and remove the tibia pad and replace it with one that is not as thick. They tape the new one back down with double sided tape and gorilla tape.
5th-Vacuum out under carpet, put carpet back and vacuum there too. Make sure both hooks are in place and put mat back in place.

I am pretty sure that is what they will do with the Tacomas, they just didn't have a template yet to do my truck.

I know you all are bad mouthing it right now but it really does not look bad if done correctly. It looks stock to me!

I did my wife's for one reason and one reason only!

I have a two year old that spends 85% of the time in a car in her car.
I would never be able to live with myself if I knew I could have gotten it done and did not as I didn't think it could happen to her car. I did not want to take the chance with my wife and son so I took it to get it done!!

My mechanic gets paid good for it and if it is done right like mine is you will never know!

It just pisses me off that I buy a brand new truck and have to have it chopped all up, leaf springs replaced and all the other stuff. I specifically asked the dealership if the truck I bought was involved in the recall and they said "we could not sell it if it was until it was corrected". So I was assured that this truck was fine. So whose to blame? I would have never bought it if I had known what I know now. Seems to me my dealership should by the damned thing back since I was lied to. Ford must be making these damned trucks now.

 

In college, one of my roommates had a pet ferret. One night a bunch of us decided to take a late-night trip to the drive-in for a snack. The ferret wanted to go too so we brought it along. At the drive-in my roommate pulled in then just kept going, whipping around the parking lot and back onto the highway. Finally he slowed down and pulled of the road. I asked him what that was all about and he said, "Damned ferret was under my brake pedal."

 

You bought a vehicle made by human beings. Nothing made by man is 100%.

 

That's for sure if you are talking about the crap we make here in America. Lazy people make shitty products. No accountability = shitty products
If Japan had never involved America in making their products we would not have any of these issues. Look at our work ethics....they suck. For example, it takes 5 people to fill a pot hole in a highway. One to hold a flag, tree to stand around and watch, one supervisor and one person to fill the whole. One worker and 4 lazy ass people. You see it all the time. And our excuse "10 percent of employees perform 90 percent of the work" and that's acceptable to organizations. I say BULL SHIT! Fire the lazy fucks, keep the good workers and give them raises from the salaries of the worthless fucks and start getting America back on its feet. I am so sick of more emphasis put on affirmative action than getting people to earn their damned paycheck. Maybe someone needs to take lessons from Canada.

 

I've stopped paying attention to Toyota "recalls" since the original one that started the mess wasn't even a design flaw and everything that's followed has been made-up media panic.

I totally agree with you on that! They should not sell these trucks with the old parts that they have to replace anyways. It is aggravating! But just keep in mind as it could be worse! You could have bought a Ford!

A ferret went in cylinder 5 and screwed up the gap on my sparkplug. Damn ferrets.

 

Bump... my dealer just called me as they are doing work on my truck and said it is part of this recall.
Is there any reason I would not want this done?
Any reviews from people who have had it done? (driveability, looks, etc)

 

I've got 4500 on mine. My first toyota. I'm not impressed at all.
