Well, that just seems impossible to drive in the city.

My Dakars do sound a little like that after a few years, but they are much quieter than the stock leaf pack.

    Horrible idea.

i would rather have someone stand on my testicles in a pair of golf cleats than trust my life to this thing. A vehicle that uses the same finite onboard energy source to move about AND all the electronic shit I need to run on a mission (radios, power amp, FBCB2, etc) is a bad fucking day waiting to happen.

Rip out the batteries and make it a proper diesel-electric, and I'm in.

Tell us how you really feel.

Id still rather be stranded and shot than have my nust crunched by golf cleats. Lmao

That's because you've never been shot at ;-)

Jumping TOC or skedattling out of your OP in a hurry requires shit to work. I'd rather have some go-juice on tap than dry humping my man-pack batteries, in my fart sack all night, just to get enough juice for a short burst data trans in order to get that call for fire out. And god forbid the vehicles batteries are low with those rounds inbound.

Couldn't you just as easily be out of fuel, or have a mechanical? I'm just not sure what electrified drive changes in those regards. It might actually simplify the drive, meaning fewer things to go wrong.

Electric drive uses the same power source as all the electronic wizardry one packs on a mission. When that power is used up or low, time to break out the solar panels and have some lunch. If you don't have time or capability to recharge you are walking and destroying a large quantity of rather expensive and sensitive equipment. With a gas/diesel powered vehicle, you only need enough power left in the thing to kick over the motor.

Yes you can argue the same for low fuel. But I am only a 38lb Jerrycan dump away from an additional 200mi range and survivability. I can also burn locally accessible fuel, cooking oil, etc.

What is the weight and change over process to new batteries to achieve the same range? What dunnage will I need to leave in the field? Can I locally source more batteries if I am in a situation where my charging capacity and speed is vastly out weighed by my need to GTFO? Am I running night ops or in heavy vegitation, is my vehicle needing to be in deffalade, where are my solar panels going to go to keep my batteries charged enough to have range?

I can keep going on about the disadvantages of an all electric drive tactical vehicle. I am sure they will be fantastic in 1% of the applications out there... but the remainder, they'll be used to zip people to chow and the PX on the FOB.
