good to know....I was thinking about going with 255/85-16's before dropping the money on a lift...just waiting to scrounge up the funds and pull the trigger

You shouldn’t have to do much cutting. Just make sure your UCA ball joint is in position E, beat the pinch weld flat, and cut the cab mount back as far as possible.

OP, 887's are not a 3" lift IIRC. You need 888's or 886's and maybe a 1/4-1/2" spacer to get a TRUE 3" lift.

Depends on truck configuration. He’s an access cab so he’ll get more lift from 887s as opposed to a double cab. Not sure if it’s 3” though as I’m not as well versed with third gens.

If running steel bumper with winch you will need 886

Edit: OP mentioned steel bumpers all around with steel skids so 886 is a must.

True. I had 884s and swapped to 886 and the truck drove way better. It was a night and day difference. When hitting bumps, my front end stopped nose diving

You'll have to let us know how the wider tires do compared to the 255s on your trails. That looks similar to what we run in KY/TN (except with less mud) and I've loved my 255s on it, but I've never had anything wider than 265s to compare.

I have C-range 285s. E-range option was the exact same range. More ply tire/higher range =/= beefier sidewalls.

Hey I know that trail. Never had a problem there with 255s, then earlier this year during a storm it all turned to soup and it took me being locked on 35s to get past a hole near the first turn that was dug out.

That was gonna be my answer.

In my opinion a 285/75r18 (35x11.5) is a great compromise on the Tacoma!
I do plan to regear but I was pleasantly surprised in the lack of power loss from 285/70r17. A little easier to fit than a 12.5" wide tire. I have also been very pleased with the toyo rt! IMG_0546.jpgIMG_0426.jpg

Thanks for the input! This is actuallly what I decided on this weekend. After much deliberation, my buddies convince me on 34’s rather than the 35’s. Also with the stock gear ratio. I’m already positive I’ll lose more pinion strength also until I get around to regearing. Better to be safe than sorry. I’m on track to pay the truck off this year last thing I need to do is blow the rear end up because I was to eager to go bigger sooner.

Picture from when I first lifted it. It was a 3”. I’ve added a lot of weight since then so it sits about half an inch lower now. 0CE60E68-213A-4A60-BF85-30CE83A2110C.jpg

your welcome but the tires I just put on are 285/75r18 so they are a 35x11.7
I originally had 285/70r17 and did not notice a huge power difference going to the 35s.

I plan on running on 315/75r16 and will be picking up the new KM3's when they come in June. I run FN countersteer wheels at 18lbs a piece but 285/75/16 KO2's E rated are so damn heavy. I hope that the transitions isn't to bad because it will be about 6 months before I regear. I am running OVTune on 91 so that so should definitely help the transition period.
