    I can say this is fairly true. Due to NDAs I can't say much but as a tooling/design engineer I see the end of day goal is to make money even if the part is going to fail within 1,000 miles. Some parts cost cents to make and they are sold for hundreds of dollars so having to warranty them isn't a big deal for some OEM manufacturers. I can design/make a USA made tool to produce 2 million parts with a warranty of 1 million parts but the customer will rather choose to buy a chinese tool that will last 500,000 instead with the same warranty I offer just to save maybe 10-15% cost. Oh and after the chinese tool fails, they pay me an absurd amount of money to fix it even though it has warranty but due to deadlines they can't ship the tool to China.

    Margin over volume. Needs to be concerted effort to balance the two.

    Additionally, making quality durable parts, machinery, etc. is often seen by manufacturers as “putting themselves out of business” due to the decreased requirement for repair/replacement/service. Disgraceful.

    They always forget how much "call-backs" cost themselves, due to lack of a better quality. All mindset. Better quality, better word of mouth, more people buy the product.

    Case study:

    Where I work there is a vessel that has been in severe duty service since the early 1930’s. Some years ago, plans were made to replace it. The project was shelved when scans showed the wall thickness of the current vessel were, on average, twice as thick as the proposed replacement.

    Only problem is that the company that manufactured the original vessel was likely bombed out of existence by Allied bombers during WWII.
