There was a fire up there last summer that burned up through some cliffs. That might be cool to get some footage of. The road is a little rough and not sure if I would go up there on a weekend. There are a few places that people love to shoot at, and the fire is one of them (hence how it got started). Your drone might become a moving target. If you go in the middle of the week it's not to bad. Was up there in the burn on Wednesday overseeing the tree planting crew and didn't see anyone except for a couple in a Subaru and a King County Sheriff.

    One or two.

A few years ago my boss and I were laying out a harvest unit up that road. We noticed something strange in the roots of a tree that had fallen over along an unstable area. We worked our way down to it and found it to be a wooden box that was approximately 3.5' X 2' with an old sleeping bag stuffed in it. You could see when they buried it when the tree was still standing, but it had been down for awhile and the box was partly rotted away. At this point I was getting that uneasy feeling. I started feeling around and could feel something that was hard and roundish. I pulled part of the sleeping bag back and could see a small stuffed animal and what looked like a piece if a bone. At this point my boss and I looked at each other with that "oh s" look and headed back to the truck thinking we probably should get some one out there. The company we were working for called the sheriff and they sent out an officer. He took one look at it and decided that he needed to call is boss to see if they wanted a forensic team. They decided to have the sheriff carefully start to pull things out to see what we had (up to this point pulling the corner of the bag back was all anyone had done). Once the sheriff got into the bag we realized that it was a dog that someone had buried. I have never been so happy to see a dead dog.

I use hillmap.com. I usually set one pane to topo and the other to satellite.

I haven't seen this site before. The split screen is nice.

The split screen is definitely handy. There's also the overlays, so you can overlay a topo on top of a satellite photo. For example, I usually do topo on the left, satellite on the right. If you click "Overlays" at the top of the screen. On the pulldown, select which map you want to overlay on (whichever pane you have the satellite on), click on the opacity and enter 0.2, then click on "Add Overlay" then select "CalTopo USFS Maps" and it will overlay a see-through topo map on top of the satellite photo. You can play around with different opacities depending on how dark the satellite photo is. They used to have a snow depth overlay which was super handy, but it hasn't worked for me in a while. It's the SNOTEL-NRCS overlay. Maybe it'll work for someone else, but I think that something changed on the NRCS end.

I also believe that some of the map sets are older than others. I think that the ArcGisWorld map is the most up to date. It shows FR numbers and my neighborhood exists. On the CAL Topo maps my neighborhood (built in 1978) isn't there. I'm pretty sure they get there satellite stuff from google, so it should be as up to date as google is.

I was originally shown Hillmap by a friend who uses it extensively for work a few years back. I forget that it's not all that well known out there. Sorry for holding out :)

Forest service maps from the ranger stations. Show up to date gates and closed roads. You get fined if you are on a non mvu road.

There's some cool vantage points up North Mountain Road and Texas Pond in Darrington area.

I always think the ship canal is cool to film. The Seattle waterfront is cool too.

Heads up... Snoqualmie falls has tons of no drone signs and they'll get mad if you do it but it's not *actually* illegal since only the FAA has jurisdiction over airspace.
