New here, plz help! TRD SB or SR5 LB?

Hi I'm new here. We are purchasing a Tacoma in a few days and have two options for the same exact price. An SR5 long bed double cab or a TRD sport short bed double cab.

We live in Orange County. We plan to keep the truck well over 10 years. I hate to sound naive but I really am not sure which one to go with

I'm a stay at home mom to two baby boys and this will be MY truck. We will do camping, beach trip, etc.

Which one?

Double Cab - Short Beds look better than LB. IMO. Either one will be fine. What you should consider looking into is 4WD (if you plan on keeping it that long) you might be better off......plus it'll have a better selling point if you decide to sell later (after 10 yrs). Good luck.

Yes in the future we will haul coolers, boogie boards, bicycles, camping equipment, etc. I need the double cab regardless for the children.

 

Agreed with the Wolf! One thing I hate about my short bed was the fact that the bed was to short for my bikes. I had to take the front wheels off. I know if I had the long bed that would not be an issue.

 

I really like that it sits higher, the badging, and the fabic looks easier to clean, lol. I like the look of the bigger tires and wheels but thats something I can do later.

I'm leaning towards the LB... just don't wanna make a mistake. We usually lease cars but this time we are going to buy.

 

Go TRD Sport Double Cab long bed.

It'll have to be ordered which is fine for us per waiting time. We secured $100 over invoice for the SB TRD. The LB SR5 is $800 over invoice, ouch! We'll see if we can order our Super White LB SR5 for $100 over invoice.

Is there a significant difference in bumpiness between the two? We ditched our Acura's for the rigid suspensions.

If I were you I would go with the Long Bed. You will love the room it will provide over a short bed. Since buying my long bed, I would not go back to buying a short bed.

You can upgrade your truck slowly to make it smoother than a TRD if that is what you want.

We'll ask the dealership tomorrow if we can get an SR5 LB in the Super White. I want the mid silver but DH wants the white, o well, lol.

I will keep you all updated with pics. Can't WAIT to ditch the Odyssey!!!

 

Buy the long bed. I know plenty of short bed owners that have needed a longer bed but I've never known a long bed owner that wanted a shorter bed. I have the Super White, it wasn't my first choice but now I love it. It really grew on me.

 

Get a long bed. More room. Short bed is way to small.

 

i had an 08 double cab long bed sr5 in white and just got the 2010 double cab long bed trd sport in magnetic grey. the trd sport is a 1000 times nicer.it rides way better. seats are way way better.white stinks to keep clean. i really need the long bed,there is no other option for me.if you can do with a short bed than go for it.for the little bit of money i would go for the long bed.id rather have more room than not enough.

 

Well, I didn't see 4x4 but it doesn't really matter. Long bed should ride a bit better and carry a bit more gear in the back. No matter what you chose they are both nice. I have the SR5 long bed double cab (trd sport 4x4). If I were doing it again I might just opt for the SR5 model. For primary driving on the roads it should be more comfortable as the suspension is not quite as stiff. Also, the sport model has different front seats. While they have side bolsters and lumbar adjustment I have found they aren't as comfortable on my long legs on long trips. Just my thoughts. Ken

 

all i can say is I have the sr5 DC and I am happy with it and for all intents and purposes I probably wouldnt ever need the extras in the off road package because I dont plan on beating on my truck because it needs to last 10+ years. Also depending on model year there is a tsb for the suspension on the truck that I had done which increased the ride height of the truck and made it ride much better. I will say the short bed does fill up really fast so if I had the option when I bought mine I would have gotten the long bed but when buying used beggers cant be choosers. Just make sure you get everything you want in truck because you will have it for the long haul.

We've ALWAYS had the babies with us when we go to the dealership to look at them. So what's the main difference in interior?

I'm going to take PP's suggestion and get seat covers so will the interior still be that much better?

We are buying it tomorrow, so excited!

 

No real big internal visual differences.
The seating material is made of a different cloth on the SR5. On the exterior the quickest way to know what you are looking at is on the SR5, which typically has chrome bumpers and grill. TRD off road and sport models usually have color coated bumpers and grills.
Interior wise other than materials and slight seat contouring they are pretty similar.

If you like the TRD better, and you're not worried about stuff in the bed getting wet (i.e. not planning on putting a cover on the bed) you could get the TRD short bed (which looks 1,000x better, IMO) and get a bed extender. Just a thought.
