I did it the other week, it’s not too bad. Two blue clips on either end that need to be removed. It can be a little tricky to get the rest of the the clips to cooperate as you go. Having a second set of hands or a rag or shirt to stick in between the valence to keep the bumper clips from clipping itself back in as you go along will help.

haha, that's the car I retired to buy the truck. It's been great for the last few years!

Finally finished my camera gizmo! Not super happy with the wiring, but it's functional for now until I can go back in and solder the last few connections. Wired in a DPDT relay to switch between front and rear camera.

    upload_2018-4-14_13-35-25.jpg

Camera mounted! Hard part done! ....Right?

    upload_2018-4-14_13-50-23.jpg

It's at this point that I realized I had no idea what I was doing. So, like any sane person, I forged on!

    upload_2018-4-14_13-54-39.jpg

I'm no electrician... nor have I ever used a DPDT relay... after testing it on a battery from another car, I figured out how to toggle it and used a multimeter to figure out which terminals were the feed, always engaged and intermittent. Documented because I'm old and don't remember stuff good. Huge thanks to @Rome604 for the diagrams to get me started!

    upload_2018-4-14_13-53-14.jpg

Here's the simplest video feed interrupt harness I could muster. Only had black wire so my heat shrink and label maker came in super handy! By this point I had wired it in with the RCA cables still attached and worked out how it works with the front camera before completely installing it. Labeled the "to head unit" side and the "original feed" side to make sure I wired it up right on the relay.

    upload_2018-4-14_14-0-19.jpg

Nestled the relay down between the new switches and the old ones. Shown here before testing with double sided tape while I work out a more permanent mounting method. I wanted to keep all my work reversable and contained. Not sure why... just... cause. Hence the harnesses and the tape, rather than cutting the factory harness and drilling holes to mount the relay block. The vampire clips (I know... I know... :(... ) are temporary until I can solder those last power lines in permanently on my switch harness. The plan is to take out a bunch of the slack and make one clean harness later.

    upload_2018-4-14_14-5-20.jpg

All wired up, tested and functional! Woohoo! Took longer than somebody who knows what the hell they're doing, because I was testing each step as I wired it to better understand what I was trying to do.

    upload_2018-4-14_14-7-38.jpg

Should help me in the mall parking lots. Cheers!

Bout to go in and build 330 201& Camry’s on a Saturday night.. gonna be thinking about simple mods to do at on my day off tomorrow. What are some good ones? Highly considering removing the Tacoma door emblems and the v6 emblem on the tailgate. What do y’all think?

I have to say.. I have been stalking your build all the way from Texas. If you come down this way when the wife releases the death grip on the account your truck may have a twin in the great state of Texas. Great job!

Truck stalking is awesome! Thanks...as far as wife budgets...you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar (Truth be told, I actually saved up for 15 years before delving into this purchase/build) ...I'm afraid my performance lift, while just exactly what I want, would get crushed by your comrades where everything truly is bigger! Enjoy your new property, thats where the money is!

Yeah, thats why I live and play in the southwestern states - the gov may own most of the land, but that makes for places anyone can mostly go and there’s millions of square miles out here for each of us. Can you imagine living in the east coast? I just learned about privately held “terrain parks”. They seem fun to drive in but can’t get over the pay to play thing. Sorry for OT, back to regular programming...

I have to do that too, especially after a recent dusty desert trip- procrastinating is sooo easy!

What’s the easiest way to clean the hardware (rack, sliders, etc.)? Power spray?
