Welcome to TW, I'm actually surprised you got a bunch of non sarcastic answers to start with. Took a little long for the derailment to happen, but that occurs in every thread.

Welp,.... guess I mighta, sorta, done, did, maybe, .. Looka c'here around a bit mo........ yup

After some preliminary searches...., in the likes of 'ebay' and 'Amazon' for instance, There seems to be several "remote start' (as much as a half mile away) w/'keyless entry' and 'automatic door locks' etc. sold in kits.
But once you get in the drivers seat,... even though the engine is already running YOU STILL HAVE TO PUT THE KEY IN.... if you want to put the vehicle in gear and drive away

    Go figure....

    Workin' on it....
After driving my wife’s Acura RDX a bit I can see how push button start is kinda nice but hardly such an inconvenience for me to go looking for a key alternative....

    But....

Different strokes....so report back here when you’ve got this figured out OP. Good luck.

You can get a compustar remote start system with ez go module. The ez go allows proximity lock/unlock. Not expensive but install I've heard is a pain in the urethra. Each power door lock has to be tapped into. I personally believe push button is a gimmick. My wife has a push button civic and I don't see the convenience in it. You still have to carry the "key" on you. Proximity lock/unlock would be a godsend.

    All hail "Kyledamon",
He just might be on to something, regarding just hanging a key from the wiper stock and lock/unlock doors with the 2nd key or Fob. (if only, it had a proximity lock release).
What an obvious solution, that I had not noticed.
Yes sir, it will do in a pinch. Not a fancy idea, but done simple, like the jitterbug, it plump amazed me. In the mean time, I can continue the seach for a push button start kit that will cover both bases (entry and ignition).
There has to be one, wouldn't ya think...??? Most all other Toyota's from, say 2010 on have it. Why not Tacoma ?

    Just saw "Thyces" remarks above.
Will study up on the Compustar remote start with
ez-go module that he mentioned. Might guess the dealership would install that, but would surely overcharge for it. Can surely find alternatives.

    Thankye kindly to Thyces

Who here has had or knows anyone that has experienced this hacker stalking? Although it’s true, is that really a reason to denounce the technology? Seems a bit of an overkilled imagination although theoretically true, odds are slim that this would happen!

The clowns always come out of the wood works.
Ask a question and get nostalgic metal key nonsense.
Keyless keys are advertising ploys for feeble women?
    What a joke.

I looked and have yet to find a true Pushbutton Start (PBS) system for a Tacoma. Remote start yes, and there was a writeup on a homemade pushbutton engine start but all require key insertion.
The complication is that the Tacoma is designed with mechanical ignition. A Prius and other PBS cars are factory build around a electronic start system.
In the Tacoma you would need to completely bypass the key ignition module (mechanical steering lock, key security, rotating cylinder etc). The PBS module would be wired into the ignition harness with the mechanical ignition permanently set to "Run". The PBS module would sense a transponder in your pocket and upon pressing the button turn on the truck first (from Off to Acc to Run) and then start the engine (reverse on shutdown).
Don't know if somebody somewhere makes this system but it would be insanely expensive.

Exactly and I still carry my credit cards without an rfid shield. I live on the edge so I’ll take push to start over key any day!

I’d love to have remote start and proximity steering wheel unlock.

Texas is hot AF, and having my AC running when I walk up to the truck would be amazing.

Like to thank 'fritzthecat' for approaching the inquiry in a serious manner.
And for presenting the dilemma so succinctly, as well as sugggesting possible solution and cost restrictions.

And OBTW, its hot as hell here in South Central Florida too !
It's forcast to be over 90° today, and summer isn't even here yet !

I don't see how this is such a difficult task, at least for my 2005 PreRunner (no transponder). If you can read diagrams, they're available if you look.

    That just sounds junky

I rented a car with push button start, it was nice. I could see my next vehicle having it, but retrofitting it? Nope f that, I'm not a fan of chopping into wires to add something like this only to still be stuck turning a key unlock the wheel. It's like something a ricer would do because race car

Its been years, but I think Toyota's install instructions for their own system requires cutting wires.
There's no reason it couldn't be plug'n play, if the connections are procurable.
