I like this mount as i am always leaving my phone in the charger...its black and fits there nicely, but i forget it.....my question is: how did you tie in to the cigarette lighter? did you take off the panel?

Would use a different manuf. process and machine all together. Cheap PLA extrusion printer. Prob not $.50, but close.

Speaking of cheap PLA extrusion printers...

My Monoprice Mini Delta 3 came in earlier this week, so I've been playing with it, printing things 24/7. 3d printing takes awhile to print in high quality, especially on a $160 printer. I took some measurements and let the printer go to work:

    Prototype 1 done:
    2.jpg

I iterated through 4 prototypes before making the final one below. It was hard to get the curves perfect. The final one isn't perfect, but it's acceptably close with a strip of VHB tape adhering it into place. The end product:
    3.jpg

Print it yourself, add magnets, and save $20. I'm going to make 2 for my truck, and will probably mount my phone to one and a UV-5R to the other. Unsure yet. There's a lot of options.

The STL file is in the attached zip, use Cura or whatever you use for slicing to import and localize for your printer. I'm fine with anyone using it for anything; @mesojdm , feel free to use it as a template and sell them if you really want.

I forgot to mention, the design is made to allow a strip of VHB at the top of the silver trim, and a piece in the little channel behind the silver trim. If you use just one piece at the middle or back, it might rattle or fall off.

I just ran the cable from the USB charger (that is plugged into the cig lighter), ran it up behind the radio trim, and then made it pop out next to the phone mount. If you look hard enough, you can see it, but thankfully it doesn't really stand out.

I did have to do a little trimming of the trim so that the cable could fit without getting pinched, but I made sure it was only on the bottom where you can't see it unless you're looking at it from the floor. lol

At some point, I would like to disassemble the USB charger and hard-wire it to the back of the cig lighter, but it seems like a lot of work to fix something that doesn't bother any of us.

Well, some interesting comments on here. I'm the guy selling them on Etsy. The price includes the magnet kit which I purchase for $8.99 so the piece of plastic is selling for $10. For those of you with CAD and a 3D printer you know that it is pretty cheap to make but this is not out of line with typical manufacturing costs versus sales costs. Not to mention it's a specialty product that wasn't offered anywhere else and is still cheaper than most out there.

After buying my Taco I had an issue with the phone mounting so I came up with something that worked for me and the response was pretty good so I offered it up for sale. It works great for me and for the people I've sold it to. No issues with hitting bumps, although I wouldn't expect it to stay with some hard off-roading.

To the guy that asked for a pic with a phone on it, my apologies, my truck was getting repaired from an accident and didn't have it at the time. By the time I got it back I had forgot to take the pic and post. I'll try to remedy that tonight.

Any questions please ask. I'm not trying to quit my day job with this, just a hobby on the side. I'm just a huge fan of my Tacoma and wanted to share my idea with others.

I literally just placed an order for this from you on Etsy - I've tried 3-4 different mounts and the one you make seems to fit the bill great. I have a heavy iPhone X and am looking forward to trying this minimalist design :)

Awesome... I love having my printer. Need to build a new enclosure for abs but in time.

Maybe we should start a thread with sharable designs that we can modify etc?

I combined his mount with a phone specific Proclip holder, hard wired, and power cord out of the way. Seller was prompt for me and included quality third party stuff. I am a happy. Simple and clean solution with no goofy stuff blocking anything.

If you wanted to go commercial.... Scosche. I have one in each of my vehicles. Small, attached to the front glass. In my Taco, it sits perfectly and rests on the dash. In my Macan, it's a little farther away. You're not going to get it near as cheap as Meso can do you though.

This is my setup. Looks a little low on picture but after you put your phone on there it’s not in the way of anything and can easily be seen
