Do I have to remove the dash, and more importantly the passenger airbag, to access that duct?

 

Most of it can be accessed behind the glove box which isn't hard to remove. If you get under the dash and simply look up you could see if the ducts are connected.

 

I'll do that! But there still is one other problem...

Yesterday, the A/C was blowing about 10 degrees warmer than it was last year...

 

Ohio is a definite possibility, but they require two tags (though they do only require one temp tag)...

 

Yea but just the fact that your girls legs were frosting makes me think of a duct issue..

Wasn't there a big temp difference from one side of the dash to the other?

 

Yeah, it's finger-numbing from both driver's side vents, not quite as cold on the inner right vent but still pretty damn frigid, and cool to luke warm on the far right vent...

 

If you lay on your back on the floor and reach up behind the dash you can kinda feel around and see if any ducts are loose. Turn the blower up and see if you feel any cold air "leaking" out of a duct before it makes it to the end where it comes out the dash

 

Just some things you could try, without spending any cheddar..

 

Way ahead of you, just tried it...

Now, for as long as I can remember, there has been a small amount of air coming out of lower vents even when I have it set to "vent." I first noticed the warm far right vent in June 2017 and immediately got the system charged, which for the most part did the trick, but that vent was never as cold as the other three from that point on...

My girlfriend and I went to the Spring Swap Meet and Car Show at Raceway Park yesterday, and we met the owner of this gem in the parking lot shortly after arriving...

This is a 2001 AC 5-lug SR5 with the 2.4L and 5-speed, and the guy is the original owner! She has about 263K miles on the original engine and transmission; the clutch is original as well, and the owner told me that the A/C has NEVER been charged or otherwise serviced and blows cold. This Taco is fully loaded as well, with cruise, tilt, power windows, power locks, and factory AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD! The truck has an open rear, and the owner said it was a great truck, but it would get stuck in a puddle...

But hey, whether it's a got an LSD or is doing the one-tire fire, it's still a 1st Gen Tacoma with all the right options that's been lovingly maintained!
