My Tundra and 4Runner were both MGM. Had to have the Inferno Taco though. I've seen a Inferno Tundra and the body is too smooth to pull it off. I've seen a pic of a Inferno 4R. That works.

I highly suggest doing it right and painting them. I did mine with a satin finish. Turned out great. I painted so that i would have no issue when pressure washing.

Embraced my Inferno side a lot more today.........

Went to the grand opening of 4Wheel Parts today and hung out with some of the Md members of TW. Great peeps, had a great time! Came home and knocked out some simple mods since it was over 70 degrees.

First up I finally fixed that damn passenger side mat that was shifting all the time.

That was easy enough and cost like 5 bucks.

Then, I proceeded to derp my door badges and remove the hideous silver pin stripes (silver, really, on inferno!?). So after I started the derping process I would work on a section of pin strip to allow for some drying time. Worked perfectly since the stripes were coming off a half an inch at time :frusty:

It was windy as hell so this didn't help at all. Luckily I bought the 3M Adhesive Remover just for this project. I had overspray on the back doors

All said and done it worked out and only took like 5 hours for everything o_O

I like the badges so much I am going to follow some others lead and remove and paint them properly so I don't have to worry about it coming off.

I still have to say though, the best part of the day was driving my Tacoma to a event and hanging out with other TW members.

    This forum is fantastic!

On plasti dipping the badges, I've seen hundreds of posts and twice as many videos but I still don't understand? What keeps the Plasti Dip from sticking to our beautiful paint jobs?

It's really not paint. It's a rubberized, colored coating. Key word being "coating" which means it's not permanently bonded to the surface its sprayed on. It can peel off. Now, when I did my grill I also shot it with a Plastidip brand Glossifyer. This is a clear component and makes the rubberized coating harder and more stabilized, ie, less likely to peel. I have it but didn't have the time to do the door badges with it.

Even after watching those said hundreds of videos and reading those hundreds of posts, when I peeled away the excess even I was amazed how it broke/tore where the letters meet the door skin. If you look closely they don't actually touch, and there is a little gap. That's all it needs apparently to come away clean.

Like I said though, this can peel off so I will be painting properly. But for now, with less effort, this is perfect.

Exactly. It will peel if coerced near any edge of if you nick or cut it.

Overspray is the main issue. Due to the properties, a little overspray is worse than intentional overspray. You don't want the wind catching it and have to pick a bunch of little dots off the side panels, but peeling it up as a sheet is nice and clean.

YouTube "dip whole car" and you can see how tough, thick, etc the stuff is.

Exactly, and the only con is the wait between coats. On warm day though not a big deal.

I had a lot of overspray, and it was minimal, which as you say is bad. I just sprayed the hell outta the areas with that 3M Adhesive remover and it wiped right off. Knowing what I know now I would not do it on such a windy day, and I would use more paper to cover more of the truck.

I will add one more thing to all the great info they have given. The more coats you put on the easier it is to peel

I had removed mine with fishing line wrapped around my fingers (gloves suggested). Best on a hot day. The adhesive foam is sticky, but it isn't too much of an issue with Goo Gone. I taped around the badges with painter's tape to give a reference for when I was ready to reapply the badges.

1/4" 3M foam adhesive is placed on the back of the badges. Honestly, this is the hardest part. By hard, I mean tedious. I sat and watched a couple TV shows while I cut each piece.

    Result is awesome though.

Both of these are great posts about this. Thank you for them.

There is definitely a feeling of extreme gratification doing a mod like this because it's not too difficult yet the result, as we've all said, is very dramatic.

With all that said, I'm wondering if there is a quicker method. Basically, our time is so limited and since this type of mod is weather dependent, would it just be more efficient to either buy a second set of badges and do all the paint work in stages, then in under an hour, swap them out.

Or, and I know this is really not in the spirit of a true conversion, just buy black badges and swap them.

I just have to wonder how much our time is worth in the long run?

I also have to wonder what all the guys taking them off their truck on the forum are doing with them and how much they'd be willing to sell them for. I'd buy a use set if the price was right. Hell some guys might even give them away and just charge for shipping :boink:
