    In the manual it has several levels noted. I am not sure which one is mine...

    I have a 2017 off road auto 4x4

    I was too looking at mobile 1, but it says LS 75-90 for mobile one. And the manual calls for LT 76-85 or equivalent . Does the limit slip on the module 1 matter?

    I was gonna go with a amsoil, but it’s a fortune

    My dealer does not stock recommended Toyota fluid, but sells and uses the Amsoil.
    After you read that article you'll know why.
    Summary on page 19.

    Lucas is last :eek: , royal purple is down there also.
    With LSD I believe you need synthetic.

    My dealer sells lucas for $15. Not allowed to mark up.

    Amsoil is $15 for me at dealer. What is Mobil 1 ?
    For a 35-40K+ truck a few extra $ is minimal considering this isn't changed frequently.

    The viscosity after shear test is what concerns me on Mobil 1.

    "the slightly higher than average price of AMSOIL Severe Gear would
    be offset by the cost savings achieved through reduced maintenance, longer lasting differentials and extended lubricant life."

    1) That is an 11 year old 'study'. Even if those results are accurate for the time of the testing, are you suggesting the lubricant industry has stood still for the last decade?

    2) Did you note that the 'winner' of the study is the firm that produced the study? That alone should create pause.

    3) The fancy signature sheets at the end? Linked in shows David Leitten is the ‎Laboratory Director - ‎Amsoil Inc. Again, a reason for pause. Notary work isn't impressive. It only means they validate the ID of the person signing. Not the content of the document.

    If you want to use lab work to support your choices, at least use work from an independent lab.

    Amsoil certainly isn't bad. But no boutique elixer is needed for these diffs. Proper wt., GL rating, clean and full. OTC gear lube from a quality manuf. is just fine.

    If you feel good paying that kind of money though, please proceed.

    Pretty much. Level F/R and L/R. Same procedure for the last 50 or 60 years.

    Simple solution is to buy 7 qts of the proper fluid (they all use the same type, and you are doing the front at the same time, right?). Do the front first, then fill the rear slowly as @JimboAnz mentions above. The worst that happens is you have some left over for the next change.

    Or just return unopened bottles if you wish.

    And your independent recent study, paper, showing such detailed research ? Link please.
    Maybe it doesn't exist for a reason.

    I think you're right about not existing for a reason. Because independent labs don't write advertisements disguised as white papers.

    However, if you send a sample from your vehicle in for testing, they will tell you the health of both your lube of choice and the differential it was running in, as well as a recommended change interval.

    Sending a sample in could be too late after a few 10K miles.

    I'm not testing oils in my truck, I'll go with true lab results.
    I can't find anything that discredits that paper after 10 years. Nothing.

    The only way for you to get true lab results is to send in your oil for testing to a lab, you can't use someone else's lab results and determine from that that the oil you are using is good.
