Need some help on a deal for 2018 Tacoma!

    I think you can get a better deal than that. The MSRP on my truck was $40,900 (plus dealer add-on crap) and I was able to talk them down to $36,000 and they paid off the $2,750 that I was upside down on from my previous vehicle.

    I doubt they're going to give you much more for your trade so you'd be better off selling your car private party, which I did with my 08 Scion Tc a couple years ago. The dealer back then wanted to give me $1000 for it but I sold it myself for $5,700 after having it posted on craigslist for a couple weeks.

    I happened to find my 17 dcsb trd or about three weeks ago. Previous owner had traded it in for a certified ford diesel. Oddly enough the salesman had told me it was there for 40 or so days and was about to head to auction. Originally priced 34 and change. When I saw first saw it, it was down to 32500. When I went in to negotiate with them it was 31600. Told them what I wanted to be out the door at and got it to just under 30100

    You can have the Corolla paid off in a year by paying 400-450 a month (dunno what your rate is so just guessing). Then I would save up $400-450 a month and buy a Tacoma in November or December. Black Friday always has deals and so does December.

    USAA/TrueCar makes money off the deal that the dealer pays them. Somewhere in the range of 200 to 250 per unit if the certificate is used. Some dealers will take the certificate and not report that they sold you the vehicle. Thus keeping that finders fee.

    I've used them several times. They also steer you into the models and colors that are slow movers. In my case last fall. They kept sending me deals on the Blue and Red trucks and stripped models that no one wanted. I checked off the Silver box box but they were obviously blind. Also is only works smoothly if the truck is in stock. If they have to wrangle it from another dealer, they usually have to take something else with it. You also don't get as good of deal either as the ship to dealer gets all the holdback monies.

    They do circle back after a few weeks and ask if you bought the car and ask for the VIN number. I've never responded to any of those emails. I'm not sure other than that how True knows you bought the vehicle other than you responding to the email follow-up.

    USAA also has some deal if you use it they will give you a break on the on a car note. I'm not sure what it is. But most Credit Unions come in way better on the rates anyway. USAA is good at discounted auto insurance and lousy at the rest. Remember the word Bank in the name?

    I've used them to beat the price down. It's no secret what these buying services are hustling. And no one is going to loose out on a sale for a few hundred bucks.

    All the buying service does is cuts out the haggling so you have a life for some portion of the day.

    As for the deal on your Corolla, only you can make that decision. You can see what others are saying. Some are experts on running theirs mouths and that's it. Cars are a shitty investment unless your Name is Wayne Carini. I don't think Toyota's are on his radar screen either.

    You've already gotten good advice here.

    Trading in a car is only valuable if you have equity in the vehicle and as a sales tax incentive. In this case you have neither.

    If you want the truck, there are plenty of services on the internet to see if you're getting a good deal. Only you can determine if you can afford the payment.

    If I was you, i'd focus on just buying the truck and not dealing with the trade. Once you have the truck, clean up the corolla and put it up for sale. You'll likely be able to get what you owe easily.

    As the guys said sell Corolla privately.
    Look for a cheaper truck.
    Negotiate the price not the payment.
    The dealers try to fit you into one of their boxes. It's all smoke and mirrors.
    Eliminate the trade.
    Arrange financing prior
    Negotiate price only use internet sales
    Make it non-emotional. Ie. New and shiny impulse

    If possible try to look for left over 2017's I bought mine the beginning of this year and only paid 32k with extended warranty, go at the end of the month and look at dealer inventory they will be willing to deal to roll it off the lot way more flexible for the deal. If you are searching online they know you want it bad and will hike the crap out of the price and wont be willing to bend some rules for you.

    Pay off the corolla and be saving until november if you want a 2018 then search hard for those months.
