This is yet another cool Taco I spotted while my girlfriend and I were at Raceway Park yesterday. As you can see, it is a black 5-lug AC SR5; It has a beige interior. There was a jacket or something covering the center console so I couldn't tell if it was automatic or stick shift; the windows were also so well-tinted that I could not see if there was a clutch or a pull-and-turn handbrake. How did I get so close to this truck without raising suspicion? I walked over to the nearest booth and asked if the owner around. The vendor running that booth was not the owner, and unfortunately the owner was not present, but he basically told me I could look as closely at the truck as I wanted if I was so interested...

I knew it was older than 2009 because despite being an SR5, it had an aftermarket backup camera mounted above the rear license plate instead of in the factory tailgate handle location (No 2005-2008 Tacos had a factory backup camera, while 2009-newer models with the SR5 trim and above did have them, and base models like mine were pre-wired). I was able to determine by reading the VIN that it is a 2007 model. The rims are obviously aftermarket, and it is not low enough to be an X-Runner. It also lacks the unique body kit, but it does appear to have factory fog lights. The chrome grill and chrome rear bumper appear to have been replaced with base model versions to create a "blackout" look. If you look closely at the last two pictures, you will see that the emblem says on the lower right corner of the tailgate says "V6 SR5." The aforementioned vendor and I believe that the owner put the emblem on there for laughs, and that this truck is actually a 2.7L...

What do the guys and gals of TW think?!?!

It was probably cheaper/easier to find a used tailgate locally rather repairing the orginal tailgate or the original was stolen.

Ah, it wouldn't be a Sunday without a good argument. Well here's my 2 cents. It depends where you live, and more so how it is maintained. Out he in S. CAL, there are tens of thousands of early model Tacoma's in much more "pristine" condition. They have never seen snow or ice or road salt. Some never see the sun except for a twenty mile freeway commute each day. You really can't compare a daily driver in Penn to one in So. Ca. One mans clean machine is another mans beater, it depend on what condition vehicle you are used to looking at.
