Indeed. My mom owned a 2004 legacy outback 5spd when I got my driver's license, I actually took my road test in that. Was a pretty fun car to drive for a 4cyl station wagon.

You can get a 4runner SR5 premium for the same price as a 3.6R. Food for thought.

We have an 08 Forester, the last of the wagon SG body style.

Subaru’s are great all rounders- but they do have their quirks. Most burn oil, and the good old ej25 in 90% of Impreza/Forester/Legacy/Outbacks likes to blow headgaskets. Awd also means 4 new tires every time- we had a tire get wrecked and needed to get them all.

But when this one goes to the big rally in the sky we’ll be replacing it with a new Outback - I want a 3.6 so bad..

You’re right, on paper it’s far from controlling.
But When the planets largest automaker owns almost 20%, it’s far from a silent partnership

Just traded in in 2013 outback for a 2018 Tacoma. I was getting way to many notices in the mail about lawsuits of transmission failures and to much oil consumption. What really did me in was the resale value. If I would have bought a Tacoma in 13 for the 32k I would have been up by $6k.

Yup. If you own a Subaru and you're not filling it with oil regularly between the changes, you're running it low. I couldn't wait to get rid of my wife's legacy. Thing rattled like a can of spray paint 50k miles in.

I went from a 2007 SR5 DCLB to a 2015 Outback / Premium. Was looking for a smaller footprint, better MPG's. I bought the Outback with a clear expectation that if I wasn't happy with it after a year or 2, I could get back into a Tacoma.

Liked the Outback well enough, but there were a couple of lightweight recalls and warranty work, as well as some other issues, in my 2 years of ownership, that left me less than enthusiastic about it. And, that smaller footprint also meant that heading off on "expeditions" made packing a real puzzle, even with a robust cargo box on top.

Finally decided that I wanted back into a Tacoma and got a very good number from the Toyota dealer for trading in the Outback. I'll drive this truck until, well, ummm, I don't want to drive it any longer. And, notwithstanding my experience with the '15 Outback, there was plenty about it that I liked and think I may have gotten a semi-lemon. Anyhow, 7, 8, 10 years from now, I might buy another Outback when I'm not as active and don't need the truck for various adventures.

We had a lot of problems with the cvt trans. That’s why I have a Tacoma now!

Also, if you have any timing belt issues it requires a top end engine rebuild.

Our outback was a lot of fun though.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
    NOT TRUE !!!
All Outbacks and imprezas are now made in Lafayette Indiana. The outbacks have all been made there for the last several years and the Imprezas started in the last year or so. This happened after they stopped masking Toyota Camrys in the same plant. For now I do know the Foresters are all made in Japan.
Oh BTW --we presently own and drive a 2017 Tacoma and a 2015 Outback Limited. The Outback is a great vehicle.
