Whoops. I meant cruising seems better now 45-60 mph is so nice with 1200rpms in 1.04. Commuting is nice

Ah, I find it harder to maintain speed now. It was easy and worked a little better before. I guess it could be a give or take, I still like it overall.

@OVTune great job on tweaking this tune in a little more with 1.04. For me, tip in is great, the cold weather, cold start surging is gone, shifting works great for me whether I'm driving like a cop is behind me or like there isn't one around & open it up. Truck idles smoother, no surging in reverse either now. Mileage bumped up some too. @bshammer0, are you going to start a new review thread for 1.04, or we just continue with the original 1.03 thread you started? If it wasn't raining here, I'd of called off work & logged some miles. Thanks again Mat

What speed are y’all getting to 6th running 1.04?

Depends how much my foots into it. Going thru a 35mph zone it came in about 38-40 with a light pedal. Merging half throttle onto the interstate about 65, but I only got on the interstate once so it might vary

The truck won’t go into 6th at 38-40. That’s 5th. I’ve been watching with obdfusion.

The torque converter locking makes it feel like it shifts, but cruising at 39 (the speed I set my CC to on my commute) it’s at about 1100 RPM, locked in 5th.

If you were in 6th at that speeds, you’d be below 1,000 RPM. Not gonna happen!

The reason I’m asking about 6th, I was going 55 and noticed it didn’t go to 6th. Then I went up slowly in speed and ended up cruising at 65 (per dash). 5th gear.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. This powertrain has no torque below 2k rpm. My truck would constantly be downshifting to get up the slightest of inclines (which is was doing with 1.03). Holding rpms above 2k eliminates the downshift. The changes made in 1.04 have been wonderful for rolling country roads in PA.

I have already sent this to the wizard (Matt) but I wanted to put this out there in case it sums up anyone else's issues:

    2016 TRD Sport 4X4 4dr
    4.88 gears
    285-70-17s

Throttle tip in- Much better than 1.03. I think it could be refined just a grunt more for those of us who are running 4.88s and 33s.

    Idle is great

Still get a little flare up in reverse when coming to a stop- tends to be right as I am backing out of the driveway (steep incline) and I start slowing down to shift to drive. Can be warm or cold start doesn't matter

6th gear delayed upshift- There seems to be a delayed shift to 6th now. Almost like I need to go a little faster to get it to go into 6th. This didn't happen with 1.03. I can live with it just an observation.

**1st-2nd gear upshift fuel cutout**- This is my biggest pet peeve since 1.03 was released. Under WOT from a dig- Just before the 2nd gear shift should happen I get a dead stop cutout. It seems to be hitting the rev limiter, cuts the fuel, comes back on, makes the shift, and then it takes a second for 2nd to pick back up. Once it does, its a screaming demon. This does NOT happen when I hold the throttle around 75-85%. The truck pulls almost as hard, makes a seamless shift, and then I can mash it to the floor once in 2nd.

I'm lucky to get 45mph on my commute so no info on 6th... I can't deal with it staying in 5th though if that's the case

I am not quite sure. Maybe around 62-63 mph. I can get it to shift into 6th if a let off or bump the throttle. Like I said, it is not an issue but an observation. Keep in mind my issues my not be the same as most considering I am 4.88 geared with 285s. I will say this, I can roll these 33s pretty effortlessly...

Side Note- has anyone tried a WOT pull from 40mph using the manual upshift? It is INSANE!!!! Gobs of power!

Yeah, I think I find myself in the bucket of folks who'd generally rather the truck hang out closer to 2k rpm to avoid / minimize shifting. I still find myself sometimes just driving in S-4 even though I do love the work Mat's done w/ the shifting in D for highway driving. I didn't pay close attention to the speed at which it goes to 6th, but I think a lot of this shifting is truly going to be to personal preference. Though I do suspect there are 3-4 common themes in "flavors" of shift tunes Mat could provide to folks to minimize a high volume of custom work.

1- Folks who want it to generally avoid OD (5/6) unless at speeds >45mph
2- Desire for the truck to run in a more "efficient" ~1,000rpm range when not highway driving
3- As-is (which is somewhere in between the above)

For me I never want to see it going into 6th unless I'm going over 60-65 on the highway. Period. At least not for my driving conditions on the daily. If I had long stretches of open 50mph road with few, if any hills, it would be a different story perhaps but I live in the hills and drive to the mountains and most of my driving is <45 mph city streets/roads, 70-80mph interstate, stop/go commutes, and windy 30-45mph mountain roads.

That said, I did notice last night there were a few times when I was driving along at 1100 rpms in 5th doing 45 when the truck actually didn't FEEL like it was lugging which has never been the case so that was nice. Still liking the improvements of 1.04 over 1.03 overall. The flaring in reverse or cold start or even when pulling into my garage (which was an issue even stock) seems to have been resolved

The highway behavior is perfect. Yesterday I set the cc at 80 mph and while going uphill or an overpass in would jump from 2000 rpm to 2200 rpm. Felt like maybe it was the torque converter locking and unlocking which was beautiful because it seemed seamless. I was waiting for it to downshift like it always has but it never happened.

Driving in S mode is 100% unacceptable for me. Honestly, I wish there was a manual/cable style throttle body we could get to eliminate all of this drive by wire crap. I don't need a sensor telling another sensor to open an actuator and then decide it knows best and doesn't open the throttle plate enough. Just let me choose how far I open the throttle plate!

Confirmed, it holds 6th too long. If I'm happily cruising along at 60mph I don't want it in 5th, I want it in 6th for fuel economy. Can't figure out the exact shift rpm yet for 5th to 6th.

Mat, please give us some info on this, you've changed the time but not given us any info on what you've changed .
