So the long story is he had a 2017 F150 XLT 302a pack full cab short bed with 7,500 miles on it. Asking $37,900. Not a bad price but my hope with incentives to get him in the $35k area. NADA throws out $26,500 for my truck. So like a $8,500-$10k difference is what I was shooting for.

So he comes back with $20,100 for mine. I say we are a little off there, asks how much and I say $6k. He starts to laugh and asks me where I got that number. Tell him to pull up NADA and he starts going through it chuckling, gets to the end his face drops and goes "o that is a lot of money". So him and the manager disappear for 20 mins. Comes back and goes this is what we found in a 150 mile radius. Was like 6 tacomas on there but ok. He didn't even look at it cause the first two trucks were basically mine for $28k and $29k, next four weren't even TRD Sports and were like $25k-26k. So I go to leave and get the "we'll pay you full NADA for yours if you pay full NADA on ours"... tell him no since that'll be more than what he's asking and whats on the market. That's when I chuckle and leave. I get the phone call at the end of the day asking what will make this work, hit him with $35k on his and $25.5k on mine. Haven't heard back yet.

Trying to find something a little bigger to fit the car seat and everything in, and also something automatic so the wife can drive it. She wasn't 100% sold on the F150 anyways.

Big bad wolf is trying to blow my house down!
Good thing about days like today - take a stick of incense around & find where the drafts are coming into the house.
These days are the days the F250 would really shine - nothing more stable than a heavy truck on a windy day. Hate driving my Toyotaii in this wind.

F150 decided it didn't like its ambient air temperature sensor so I no longer have an outside temperature display and have a P0071 code. Hopefully it is a single fluke. I am hoping the dealer will just order one and swap it without me making two trips.

I guess in comparison to GM trucks blowing through ECUs and Tacomas losing the camshaft position sensor right away this is a minor thing and I shouldn't be too concerned.

    ouch.
I use a similar approach. I just tell them to give me my keys, I'm out. Then, when they act all surprised, I just tell them as I'm walking out to call when they are serious about selling me a truck. The trick is to follow through with the walk out, sends a strong message. Wastes a little more time cause you'll have to go back, but if they're that far off, you're talking about thousands of dollars at that point so it's worth it. Then, you can just deal with them over the phone until you have a verbal deal struck and you're only going back to finalize.

yeah it was rather annoying since we were there for like 2.5 hours (granted 30 min test drive). I try to have a best case deal in my head, and then also a worst case but something I'd still be comfortable with. He only came down $400 on his and mine was like $6k to low. So we were like $8k or so off where I wanted to be so I knew this wasn't going to go anywhere.

Exactly. And a lot of times it takes a few calls back and forth to get them to come up to where you want to be, so doing it over the phone is a lot better than 3-4 trips in to do it in person.

Lol try an FJ in a crosswind. It's like a damn sail. Otherwise it's obviously the best all around vehicle for everything.

so I hang onto their keys and mine during the whole negotiation. If the deal isn't gonna work I just hand them theirs back and I start to walk out. Usually when I get to the door the "deal of a life time" comes out of them. This time it was a catch 22 of "we'll give you full price for yours if you pay full price for ours (which was more than what they were originally asking)"

I seem to recall @DoubleRGirl having an opinion about FJ's in a crosswind...

Except towing. Or hauling manure. Or for fuel economy. Or looks. Or wind noise. Or rear seat access.

Or driving in snow in another state, if you're an asian female.

Same thing happened to me but I'm the same way, usually the salesman recognizes that I've done my reasearch and know what I'm talking about so they don't try to jerk me around for too long.

I try to find the exact truck (car) I want online and only go to look at that. Even if I wonder around the lot a little bit I just go "i'm here to see xyz truck" If the deal doesn't work I leave. It makes it easier for me to know 100% before I get there what I want and can run the numbers at home for different deals that would work for me. And keeps them from sucking me into something that I don't really want or something a little to shinny. I got bit once by taking a look at a new truck on a lot while mine was in for service, and lost some money getting out of the deal

I had a dealer do that to me. They had a decent advertised price but once I started negotiating my trade, he jumped back to full blown MSRP. I hate dealer tactics, I really don't have the patience for it. I'm pretty quick to just walk out.

Not sure if one of my contacts fell out or I just completely missed my eye but one of them isn't in and it's fucking killing me. Noticed while driving for about 10 minutes that my right eye was hazy. Pulled off at the Framingham rest stop on I90 and sure enough no contact. And I couldn't go back cause the roads to my house are closed for the marathon till this afternoon. Lame

Same here. I do 90% of my shopping before I even set foot in the dealership. I search online, print window stickers, run KBB and NADA on both vehicles, call my insurance guy for a quote on how my yearly rate would change, etc. I even go so far as to get preapproved by a couple of lenders so I can walk in with interest rates I want to pay. Then I drop by on a Sunday and take a look at the truck I'm interested in without the salespeople hassling me.

I hate that. I've had my contact pop out a few times while driving and have no clue where it went. Now I leave an extra pair of contacts in my truck and in my bag so if it ever happens I have a replacement pair.

I am always willing to walk from a deal. I also go end of day and end of month, works for me but who knows if it really matters. When I bought the Jeep the manager at Quirk Quincy was a sick. We went back and forth for awhile and he said well, you want the jeep you are going to have to pay (or something along those lines). I laughed at him and said yup I forgot want it but I don't need it and I am trading in a Tacoma which does extremely well with holding its value. I walked out and got calls for a week before telling him to duck off i bought elsewhere

I'm doing my online car shopping now and haven't quite figured out the point of the 'e-price'. I clicked it for a few different dealerships, got several e-mails from them all and none of them have any pricing information on them... I'm starting to open my mind up to a 3/4 ton gasser also. Been talking to a lot of the trades people I work with, most of them have really good reasons they went with gassers instead of diesel. Some I agree with, some not but I'm at least going to test drive one.
