Nys law makes it illegal to have a hitch in your receiver

    A new law in NY now makes it illegal to have a ball hitch ( or I guess any other kind) in your receiver unless you are towing. It's another bs law to make money for the state. Just wanted to warn everyone in NY.

    I know three people who have been ticketed already...

    Will it really be enforced though? I would think probably not.
    But then again with the economy the way it is some police agencies are hurtin for money. I got stopped a couple years ago cause I had my license plate in my front window of my camry. Which had been there for 6 years previously with no problems by the way.

    I think they should ticket people with fucking bull balls hangin from the hitches. I'm sure that is very offensive to people that are visiting from other countries that should have no say so here.

    Actually it does have more to do with the economy as I was reading that the 5 MPH over the speed limit waver is kinda disappearing because they are trying to get more revenue in to the coffers

    BS. There is no new law in NY state concerning hitches being in the receiver while not towing.

    There has been an "obstructed plate" law for many years that is sometimes enforced when the hitch or apparatus obstructs the vehicle's rear plate, but there is no law - new or old - specifically pertaining to a hitch being in a receiver without a trailer being attached.

    Gray wire, Some lights in the bed area, and some character marks throughout.
    I am always preparing to tow so I keep it in. You never know when someone will tailgate you close enough to require a break check. And if they become hung up on the hitch it is now towing and I was legal the whole time. :cool:

    idk how that's gonna hold up in court though. cause according to federal law your speedometer can be up to 7 mph off...for example, 6 lugs and 5 lugs and xrs all read the same speed differently...

    It is a real law and i know 3 people who have already received tickets.
    My neighbor is a trooper and he told me about it a couple weeks back when i had my hitch in. I thought nothing of it but then a couple people i do work with got tickets for it and so i pulled mine out.
