So I just bought my new Tacoma and was driving my mom home from getting her benz repaired. And I was stopped at a red light and this idiot didnt see that I was stopped and runs into me at 30 mph. My tailgate turned into a can-ole broke my left taillight, had to get the bed replaced and a new bumper. I got hit so hard that my bed dented the backside of the Cab. I owned the truck for about a month, and I got wrecked right in front of the dealer I bought it from and then got it repaired at lol. EDIT: Also thank goodness I didnt loose my cooler of beer that I had in the back of the truck from the night before ;D.

funny thing is that the rear back-up camera still worked and I was watching the road the entire way home. Also the tailgate was up and locked when he hit me.

I'm finding it hard to believe the tailgate was up. There's no way it bent up like it did while it was up.

I promise it was up. Why would I have my cooler in the back and it not be up lol. his bumper hit the bottom of the tailgate and it threw the top of the tailgate into his headlight.

I say you are right rjclemen. Around here those that have no proof otherwise believe their mad ESP skills override facts. I was hit once on the drivers side of my car, the impact was so strong it buckled the passenger side rear finder. The COP said no way that could happen. Dumb fuck, insurance determined it buckled because the rear frame buckled. Strange shit can happen in an impact. PERIOD.

Truck one is in at a standstill. Truck two hits truck one at 30 MPH. Truck one is pushed forward, jarring the tailgate loose, tailgate slams back at 10-15 MPH as opposite force. Slams into front of truck. Tailgate built with strong steel and extra reinforcement damages truck but tailgate is unharmed...oh yes this is a toyota. Tailgate made weak as shit bends and buckles from force against truck front steel support rails.

    Could happen.

Dang, glad your alright. There goes your resale value by a couple thousand..make him pay somehow. Carfax will flag you everytime...so on a dealer or private party sale your truck is worth less.

yeah the truck was fixed ASAP. Dumb cop put the wreck over the airwaves wrong so every scammer looking to repair my truck called me by the other guys name. That was pretty annoying.

Although the damage modern cars sustain in even seemingly minor wrecks is annoying, there's actually a method to the madness. The same impact in a 1950's car might have only resulted in a small dent... and an injury as all that energy was transmitted through the vehicle to the passengers. Those crumpled parts mean that the safety engineering was doing its job. Glad to hear everyone is OK.
