@mechanicjon question, did you get play just by lifting the tire like @lukester78 did or did you have to use a pri-bar to get play?

should use the pry bar method ideally, that'll show you if you have some play...if you find play by moving the tire then they're really bad. Plus I think play in the tires can also be indicative of a bad wheel bearing too unless I'm mistaken.

One time I lifted my tire off the ground to my check joints, when I started messing with my tire I got like 1/4” of movement and got suuuuper scared, didn’t even wanna let my truck down.

Turns out it was just my ultra effed up joints on my kings.

So there’s that, Incase you wanted to know... trying to entertain my self through college...

Yeah used the pry bar, and have thought I heard a low pitch hum the last couple days, hard to tell w the mtr’s i have, grabed both wheels at 12 n 6 n got no movement, then spun em, driver was find...passenger started the noise. So time for new ones before they get worse. I already have a set w the seals as back up. Looks like it was a smart purchase, woulda been better if I just put em in Lol I was just curious if his 1/8” was by hand or prybar

Pry bar and it didn't take a lot of effort.
Jack stand under the outer edge of lower control arm.
I'll try and video it before I remove them tomorrow

You have to overcome the pressure of the spring when the vehicle is supported under the control arm.

Yes you are correct. I was thinking McPherson strut because I just ordered a set for a car. LOL

just a tip, i'm not sure if this is true of all years, but my 2000 had ground positive wiring. That is, voltage reads 0 when the dimmer is all the way bright. When it's all the way dim (or off) it reads 12.1. Can make wiring interesting.

True, gotta make sure everything else is tightened down...could also be loose lug nuts although that would be a pretty scary realization lol.

Where's that video? I might have to go down there if he can get the information if it was a bad batch. Do you need those LBJ that you gave me? It sounds like you need them.

I don't have play yet, but I don't know when mine were last changed, if ever. I'm adding a lift, figured it's good practice to change them.

What's the pry bar method? I wanna check cause talking about it makes me worried. I'm pretty sure they're fine though. I've been on a couple trails and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

@Timmah! made a good video on how to check them, I believe he's using his 4runner but it's the same method.

My brain and body are both tired of fitting this supercharger. The only things fueling me now are Dutch Bros and the promise of SC whine. Finally rebent my fuel line and got the washers on.

Also @tymeson run your truck's VIN through Toyota's website and see if your truck comes up for the LBJ safety recall from back in the day...the recall doesn't expire and you can get new LBJ's for free if your truck qualifies. There was a run of bad ones with a manufacturing defect in the later model 1st gens that triggered the recall
