Yeti SB5 LR or YT Capra CF Pro?

 

Capra. I've had both and also currently have a Jeffsy 27.5. No better value for the dollar and they absolutely rip

 

One of my Customers (I manage a bike shop) just sold his Capra for the Yeti LR. Those are two very opposite bikes when it comes to the $price tag$

If you have the $ get the Yeti, you wont regret it.

 

I'm trying to make the exact same decision right now... so tough.

 

Not doubting the Yeti is a sick bike, I'm considering these two as well. But could you share why you think they are opposites?

 

seats are tricky, you have to find one you like. a seat that feels great when you first sit on it may be horrible after riding for awhile. it took me some time to find the right seat WTB makes nice seats at least they work for me, and a bunch of people i ride with. they have a bumch of didferent models. As far as the bikes you mentioned above, they are all box store brands now you are better off going to you LBS and checking out what they have, and get help finding the correct size.

 

What are your thoughts on the Jeffsy 27.5?

I believe I have convinced myself that’s my next bike (the 27 CF) over the likes of the canyon spectral and the trek remedy 9.8. Will be parting with my trek remedy 9 while it’s still got some value.

 

The Jeffsy is my favorite bike. Pedals so incredibly well and descends like a bike with more travel. Just so smooth and stable. I've had quite a selection of bikes over the years and the Jeffsy trumps them all. I even sold my custom Pivot Phoenix Carbon because my capra was way more fun to DH on. So my Jeffsy is my daily bike for 90% of my riding and my capra is what I use on shuttle and park days.

 

Has anyone bought bikes, frames or parts from Recycled Mountain Racing by a chance? Just looking for feedback. Thanks.

I have a toolbox in the bed. The bike won't fit with the tailgate closed even if I turn it sideways.

I have mounts that connect to the bed rail. Works really well and the bike is very secure.

 

Riding the singlespeed is even more fun than driving the truck.

 

I've had a Dyna in a Ford Ranger before, which had a much flimsier tailgate and didn't have any problems. Loading is a sketchy job with two guys, and less sketchy with three. Use a normal loading ramp, have one guy manning the bars, one in the bed to handoff, and one guy in the back rolling the back tire with his hands. Do not try to drive it up or walk it up while it's running. It makes things a lot easier if you can back up to some sort of ledge or angled driveway to cut down on the height of the ramp.

When tying it down, just use some heavy duty ratchet straps, two on the bars and two on the back swingarm and you should be fine. It's nice to have some sort of wheel chock to keep the front wheel from twisting when butting up against the bed header.

 

What's up fellas! Looking into getting a 27.5 plus bike. At the moment I'm between the Specialized Stumpjumper 6fattie, Guerilla Gravity Trail Pistol, and the Salsa Pony Rustler. Do any of you have experience with these? Which bike would you go with? I'm open to ideas so if you have a full suspension plus bike in mind let me know.

Santa Cruz Hightower

I have a Cannondale Beast of the East and Santa Cruz Chameleon plus bikes, both hardtails, and the Hightower is the only plus full suspension that I considered.

Good to hear about the Jeffsy. A Jeffsy or SC Bronson is in my future but I have time to think.

 

I've spent big big bucks on all the fancy brand bikes and they are definitely good. But can honestly say that I have been beyond happy with my YT's and there is no better value for the dollar. My Jeffsy way out performs the yetis I've had and cost half as much. The attention to detail on the new models is top notch as well

 

Seats are a pretty personal item ... most “serious” cyclists swap out the seat, so whether it’s a Walmart Huffy or a $2000+ name-brand bike, it may or may not have a seat that fits your butt. As for Mongoose, Huffy, Schwinn .... once upon a time these were real bike companies that made decent bikes (though Huffy perhaps never, and Schwinn not for about 20 years) but now they are just brands, all made in China and not real companies anymore. Two problems with most “Walmart” bikes: poor components, and worse assembly and adjustment by someone who is not a bike mechanic. But even a cheap bike at a small local bike shop will have been assembled and setup by the same guy who builds the $10K carbon mountain bikes. I bought our older kid’s first bike at Walmart, a Huffy, and it was a pretty good value especially after getting passed down to his younger sister and then friends’ kids. But a used Trek, Specialized etc from Craigslist will be better than any new adult bike at Walmart or Target.
