A new plate is coming in a year I think. WA is dumb that way - you have to pay to keep your existing plate if you don't want to change numbers - I've had 3(?) WA plates so far.

Well..I mean you pay to renew your registration here every year. But keep the plate. In Wyo every 9 years you get a new plate because they change them.

In MT you can pay once and never register again haha

Yeah, you pay to renew every year here too. On top of that, every few years, you have to pay extra if you want to keep your existing assigned plate number (a different fee). Essentially, you have to pay the "custom plate" fee to keep your existing random-ass plate.

It's 'cause they worry that they reflective coating has worn off.

 

Plate changes here are driven by the number of new plates that get issued. That in turn is a result of population. I really doubt that is a factor in Wyo or MT or ID or NV or UT or.....

edit, I had forgotten about that hologram stuff they put on there for the scanners at the toll bridges and the HOV/GoodToGo lanes.

The core problem is still the same... Too many people.
