How many needed an alignment after installing your 2" OME lift kit? I plan on paint marking the cam adjusters and setting them back to the marks after the install, but in all honesty how many people actually take it in for a 4-Wheel alignment upon completion? Thanks!

You have to get an alignment after a lift. You have changed the geometry, therefore the alignment.

You should always get an alignment after lift installation, or any type of suspension work done to your vehicle. You can probably get away with waiting a couple of days for suspension settling, but it needs to be done as soon as possible.

Should you- YES. 100% required? No. Does everyone? No. Thats what I am asking about. Who has or has not and feels like they did or did not make the right call.

required for 2", yes. You would possibly compromise safety along with possible extreme abnormal wear on tires.

No you don't need to align it. You don't NEED your tires to last more than 5,000 miles either.

Do it. It may track straight and feel ok, but you could be doing irreparable damage to your tires. What costs less, an alignment or a new set of tires?

    Get it done right

I'm not really sure why your marking your cam tabs. You shouldn't have any reason to mess with them. Or even look at that them.

...on second thought, an individual spends what...say 1k on a lift and tires then balks at the idea of a 70.00 alignment....why is this even a discussion?

I just finished my 2” lift (non OME) I marked the cams before I took everything loose, the lca’s dropped more than enough to do what I needed I then retightened everything back up and the cams never changed their original position..... i drove for about 60 miles so the new suspension could settle a bit and then went and got it aligned anyway.
It definitely needed the alignment and it will probably need another alignment soon as the suspension may not have settled all the way before I took it in for alignment.

Go with the lifetime Firestone wheel alignment it’s definitely worth it.

I have always had an alignment after every lift install that I have done. Yes, marking the cam adjusters will help, but it will not be exact. Changing the geometry of the stock suspension should be re-aligned after suspension work, IMO. So, to answer your original question, yes having an alignment after the lift was the right call for me. A proper alignment will help with tire wear, and suspension components wear as well.

Whats a "$70 lift"? No balking, just asking a question.

If you don't you have no idea on what happens when you lift. Just because someone didn't does not make it right.
If you want a good alignment, you have to get it re aligned. That is fact and not open to debate or opinion. Like 2+2=4 fact.

I’m hoping this is one of those rhetorical threads? When you move the LCAs and UCAs you affect the Camber, Castor and Toe. If you don’t correct for this your handling is terrible and as pointed out above your tires, brakes, ball joints and etc will SUFFER. Good luck, and post pics!

Tracking all. Heres the deal- Im not arguing the necessity of the alignment and its purposes- its happening no matter what. Pure curiosity- asking to see if 1. Alignment was immediately needed, and 2. If there are guys and gals out there that did not get an alignment- what were the after effects? i.e.: did they take it in for a 4-Wheel alignment and have the tech come out and say "We didn't really have to do anything to it".
