Just put in new WiFi thermostats, Honeywell Lyric T5 model. I needed two (one for upstairs and one for downstairs). They were on sale for $100, plus I had some credit card points to use. I wound up with both for the price of one

So far I'm very happy with them. We always forget to turn off the A/C when we leave. After a couple months of being able to turn it off via phone, these thermostats will pay for themselves. The geofencing is also nice, it turns the system on when you get close to home.

Move them both to center on the sink. Otherwise leave it be. But as others have said it should be the builders ruined day not yours.

One day ruined for builder, versus every day ruined for paying customer.

We had a similar issue, ended building and boxing out a new fixture plate to mount them more evenly. Not ideal, but not going insane anymore.

I got another tiling my bathroom question: I'm going to remove the toilet and tile around the flange. How long can the open pipe flange area thing sit open? I read to plug it with a rag to keep odor out, but the tile will need to sit for like a day or so to dry. Can it be left open that long before putting a new toilet in? I'm more worried that something like flushing the other toilet in the house will make water or **** come up out of the open pipe

I am so glad that when we built our current TH we agreed to a weekly meeting with the contractor before we signed the contract to build. It went really well with only 3 or 4 issues 2 of which were to the point of getting an arbitrator involved but we won out on common sense practice. One was a end wall in kitchen that was out of plumb by almost 2.78 inches in a counter height wall. The other was 5 walls in the TH that had an over a 2.9 inch bow over a 8/10 foot span they had to tear drywall out and fix the studs.

Actually that kind of shit can easily happen unless you have really detailed plans as in vanity sizes and sink sizes / locations shown WITH DIMENSIONS on a set of plans at time of rough wire / rough in plumbing plus fully detailed electrical plans and have the owner make NO changes , this is something I have yet to encounter

Lots of times we've had to open up drywall and move boxes , its no biggie

    Thanks all!!!

I’m sure I’ve said it, this House was not built for us, we found it for sale at about 75% complete. Only input we had was flooring, cabinet color, hardware, and a couple other small details.

Nothing will come out of the pipe when you flush unless there's a serious problem with your plumbing. All your sewer pipes should be gravity fed and hopefully your shit can't fly.

Definetly plug the hole. The smell is methane and can hurt/kill you if you breathe enough.

I’ve got a sprinkler question. I’ve had a leak on one zone for a while now so the heads wouldnt come up all the way, I was unable to find the leak so I just turned the zone off until I could dedicate more time to finding the leak. Long story short, the grass dried up except where the leak was so I was able to find it pretty easily, there was a buried sprinkler head that I didn’t know about and where it was attached to the main pipe was busted. My question is this, the head was attached to like 3 elbows and one little extension piece (in sort of an S shape) which was then attached to the main pipe, is it designed that way for a reason? Or can I just attach the new head to a riser attached directly to the main pipe?

This is good advice, you can also pour a small amount of vegetable oil onto the water surface in the flange/p trap to seal the smells in some.

I just replaced my entire sprinkler system in my yard. 16 heads, new valves, all new plumbing and a wifi timer. The most unenjoyable job i've ever had to do, but now I feel i know a good bit about irrigation. To answer your question, it sounds like the sprinkler head was installed with a swing joint riser. The benefit of this setup is that if you jump on it, run over it with a car or lawn tractor, etc, there is some give to the connection and it will flex instead of snapping the main pipe. You could use a rigid riser and attach it right into the pipe, but the swing joint is better. it also lets you manipulate the height a bit.

He is mistaken. The toilet has an 'integral trap', it wouldn't (and better not) have a P trap after it.

So without the toilet, you need to plug the floor flange. I use a plastic bag with a few rags stuffed in it for short term.

There shouldn’t be a P trap in a toilet flange.
You’re correct vegetable oil in a P trap will slow evaporation keeping trap sealed longer. Useful tip for cabins and part time homes.
