I took my truck in today for the u joint warranty enhancement. I'm getting a squeaking noise and after them having it for 3 hours they said it was ready. Nothing wrong with the u joints. So I got in to leave and put it in reverse still squeaking.

Went back in and had a tech come listen to it. First he said it was the rear brake drums (it wasn't).

Then he said it was the heat shield rubbing on the drive line (it wasn't).

Then he crawled under and found it to be the carrier bearing. He said that that wouldn't be covered under the warranty enhancement and that I'd have to replace the whole driveline.

Does anyone know if this is actually covered?

Do a the whole driveline actually need replaced?

I don't know if it's covered but you damn sure don't need an entirely new drive line. From what you listed above, I'd be looking for another dealer.

I just replaced mine on 07, carrier was squeaking too. You have to drop the front part of shaft but all you need is the carrier bearing. Bout $170. And no it’s not covered under warranty.

Cut & broke off some stuff.
Squeak in reverse is most likely ujoint. Never heard of that as symptom of worn middle bearing. That'll screech and/or clunk.

Tech proved he is either an idiot or doesn't want the work or is scamming you.
    Try different dealer.

Had a dealer once tell me joints couldn't be replaced and quoted me a full drive shaft. Went to oreiley and got joints for $16 each and paid a local tire/general auto shop $50 to install them.

I got one at Autozone for around $60+tax.... definitely dont need a new driveline unless you want to throw away money!

So I ended up taking it to a local shop to have the bearing taken care of. they just called and said the u joint is completely toast as well. I told them to save the parts and I would bring them in to show them how wrong they are. It pisses me off how much a dealership can miss and then try to tell me I need a whole new drive line. I'm on the phone with the dealer right now to try and get this reimbursed.

how did you end up getting reimbursed?

They're telling me that I'm SOL because they can't replicate the noise if it's already fixed. (because we already replicated the noise).

I received a letter from Toyota and it had the steps listed to get reimbursed. Search on here, there should be a copy of the letter .

I was fully reimbursed for the cost to replace my u joints. Mine were replaced by an independent auto shop .
