ECGS Bushing install questions.

Hey guy. So , I am going over my options. I have a small leak on Dr side ft diff. If I change the seal , I might as well do the ECGS bushing.
What parts exactly need to be replaced on he seal? (is there an inner and outer seal?)
What are the Toyota part numbers Id need to buy ? So, my google fu and searching is shit today. Thanks. RED

 

IIRC you can get the seal from ECGS when you order the bushing.

I did see that but I was unsure if it was OEM. I am seeing that seal on Amazon for $13.70

 

Just be careful not to install the new seal backwards like I did, or you'll be buying a second one.

 

I might just buy two and if I dont use ,I have a back up when my front wheel bearings go out..

 

I bought the seal when I did mine, but didn't end up using it. The existing seal was in like new condition and the tool I bought with my bushing didn't hurt the seal a bit. I guess I could have replaced it, but it didn't seem necessary. 2,000 miles later with no leaks. FYI, I read another member struggled getting the cv out and he suggested tapping it out underneath the truck. Think his member name is Olaf. This method worked very well for me. Took about 3 taps and it was out.

 

CV comes out easy if its positioned properly. There is a C clip that needs to be compressed to get through the spider gear in the diff. The opening of that C needs to be facing downward to be compressed easy. If the CV doesnt come out easy at its current point in rotation, push it inward (to relieve pressure on the C clip so it can move) then rotate the CV 1/6th of a turn n try again. Repeat this process till it comes out.

@REDdawn6 after seeing your seal leak I decided I didn't want to wait until mine did the same thing. I got a bushing coming only, no seal or tools.

Are you intent on getting a factory seal because of quality or do you just think ecgs wants too much for one? Just curious. I'd buy the ecgs seal, it's probably just as good. And you know they'll send you the right size!

 

Don't buy the seal or tooling from ECGS, they rip you off. I bought the seal from NAPA for $8 and made the tooling as I am a machinist by trade. I have the tooling for sale way cheaper on a new post if you'd like it. DM me. Get the bearing from them though!

I heard the aftermarket seals are not great lasting quality!? Just asking man, not busting balls @Sprockethead

 

In my experience, and I've done a ton of seals, most all seals are of similar quality. I prefer National brand, but Napa's has worked well for me in a pinch before. Never tried store brand stuff before, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend them.

 

That’s what they say but it kicked my ass until I used a prybar and popped it out. No amount of pushing, turning, pulling, repeat worked on that thing.

 

same here, 14 years in so far.

 

I should rephrase, it comes out "easy" with some leverage. I used a prybar as well. but couldnt for the life of me pry it out till i did my method above and got the c clip opening oriented down and then with the prybar it almost fell out .
