15 MPG for 2018 TRD OffRoad???????

I had two things going against me,
1: short commute. Truck was only warm for half of it.
2: lots of hills on the commute.

I thought after about 6000km I felt the transmission smooth out. Then around 28000km my wife got a '03 V8 runner, and I was immediately comparing the way my truck drove to the way it drove. The Runner was just so much smoother compared to the tacoma, that I knew something was fuckety. And I just hated driving the Tacoma after that. At 35000km I almost bought a diesel zr2, just cause I knew the tranny wouldn't jump around... Some people get lucky, be it daily drive, or environment and are happy with the way the truck performs, I drew the short straw.

 

well I just traded in my 16 diesel Colorado and the I went with a 18 trd pro. The zr2 in diesel is nice rig and I can tell u after a week with the Tacoma the diesel power is much smoother and don't jump at all. It holds 70 and 80 or whatever and gets 27 and up on hyw. My guess is the zr2 will be only couple mpg less. I put 55k miles on mine and overall was good truck. That said there are pros and cons to both. I like my toyota and we will see how I feel in couple months and about 6k miles. I almost traded for the zr2 diesel but really do like the Tacoma overall in looks and interior with exception of front seats not being more adjustable.

 

So by greasing ONLY your front driveline, you jumped up in MPG’s?

 

Looks like he has a 2016 so probably has Zerks on the rear Driveshaft too.

Same here. Started off with 5miles on the truck and ran the tank empty and was at 19 to 20mpg or so throughout

 

Seemed like it! Truck drove much smoother they took 5 to 6 pumps each

 

Speaking MPGs. Just came back from Joshua Tree, north entrance on the west side back to my house in Oceanside. Drove conservatively at 65mph back, 135 miles total and ended up getting 24.1 mpg.

Didn’t have much weight in the truck. Running 17” TRD 4Runner wheels, with 265/70/17. Was very pleased.

I’ve had better MPGs too. These BFG Ko2s are a hog to be honest.

28mpg was my best and that was being very conservative. Almost hypermiling

 

Lmao.. i hate to admit it because i have one but so accurate. Ovtune made it normal for me tbh idk what ide do without it.

 

Seeing your mpg makes me want to go trade my truck for a 2.7 SR

 

I'm currently on a loaner Trd sport dubcab auto 4x4. Averaging 19.6 mpg...about 3/4 through the first tank.

I average 15 to 16 mpg on my trd or with 255/80/17 st maxx.

Offers me a perspective as I'm far more aggressive with the loaner. I gun it on every on ramp...lol.

I've accepted this (poor mpgs) and can live with the decisions I have made.

9-11 mpg is my best on loaners

 

I was told that these loaners are later sold as certified used vehicles. Thank God for the multi point inspections...



Still averaging above 19 mpg...so I'm doing pretty good.

 

I get 20.8 average on the highway, 15 in the city...I've had the truck for a little more than a year now
