Yes, an 04 - 08 Forester XT would be ideal. Wish I still had my 08.

I really wish they'd man up and turbo the crosstrek or throw the 2.5 liter in there. Nobody wants a 12 second 0-60. (Without gear or upgraded tires)

I had a 2005 Baja Turbo and it was a terrific vehicle.

Did a few minor mods and it was a little rocket.

It's one of the few vehicles I wish I'd never sold.

Guy who bought it totaled it in less than a month

We leased a ‘17 outback and own ‘09 taco. Good combo. For camping with off roading we take the taco. For road trips the outback is great, lots of room for the fam and decent gas tank range. The 3.6 has a little more pep than the 4cyl but won’t blow your mind. The cheaper the model the best bang for your buck IMO. I wouldn’t go for the touring model, I think the quality doesn’t quite match that of Volvo or some of the luxury wagons that are a few thousand more. Works for our family of 4. Good luck OP

I live in rural Wisconsin with a chance of snow 6 months out of the year (feels like more). I have a 2015 2.5 Outback Premium and a 2017 Taco SR 4 cyl 5 spd 4x4 AC. Very happy with them both. Outback is a great road tripper, nice ride, quiet, nice seats, plenty of pep and great fuel economy. Taco is a truck, nuff said. Don't think you could go wrong with either.

I still have a thing for the Brat. El Camino of the East. And the GL. A friend's mom had one back in the day. 5-sp, low range (!), and just unstoppable. Loved that car.

I had an Outback 3.6R and traded it in for a 3rd gen. The outback was a great car, just not what I wanted. If you do go that route, for sure get the 3.6R. There is plenty of power from that motor.

I've read some that say that eyesight is a must, but I'd have to disagree. For me it was WAY to sensitive to things. My biggest complaint on the eyesight system was the way it handled vehicles getting onto an off-ramp on the interstate. While using the adaptive cruise control, it would register those vehicles and immediately apply the brakes as it assumed a wreck was about to occur. This happened on every distance setting that was offered. The vehicle also had a knocking sound coming from the driver side suspension that everyone that rode with me could hear and commented on, yet the dealerships could never hear it or said it was "normal operation"; there's even a TSB out for the issue.

When I was looking to trade my 03 Pontiac Sunfire, if I had traded straight to a 2016 Tacoma instead of spending a year with a 2015 Jeep Cherokee, I could have saved over $10k! yes, I lost $10k on what was a used Jeep when i only owned it for year.

I was actually looking a Subaru's before going with the Jeep, but didn't like the idea of a CVT or I would have bought an Outback.

But have a '17 TRD OR DCSB now. Wallet and bank account are draining fast. haha

CVT's are great in sedans, commuters, and economy cars, but they have no place in a vehicle that goes offroad in my opinion.
