So I’m thinking about having step bars sprayed with bedliner, anybody know how well it holds up against rock chips from gravel roads. The powder coating was less than impressive.

A professional krylon bed liner like Rhino Liner or Line-X will hold up much better than the rattle can stuff.

It shouldn’t chip or flake and those companies should offer a warranty for the product. I know Line-X does for virtually everything they line even if its not a truck bed.

Keep in mind any textured spray might be a pita sliding your calf down to get out.

I know sliders leave a mud stamp on pants if they are dirty and u dont do the slider 2 step/pivot to exit.

i bought a can of brush on bed liner for my bars and it has held up well so far. i still expect to re-do it yearly, but that is a small price compared to powdercoating, which has mixed reviews in the case of step bars. $15 vs $300ish, seems like an easy choice

I used Rustoleum spray-on bedliner on mine. I don't know if your steps are chrome or not, but mine are chrome and it's flaked in a few spots. Mainly under/around the plastic step pads, just from them flexing when being stepped on. Not like something the average guy would notice, but I do because I'm OCD about the truck.

Side note that I didn't consider when doing mine, you'll need to use a stiff brush to clean them if you get them really muddy or dusty since the texture will hold the crap well enough that spraying it down won't rinse it away. Not a big deal but just FYI.

I used Rust-oleum truck bed coating. It has texture but not a heavy texture like real bed liner. Mine were powder coated when I got them but the coating began to fail and then rust formed. I sanded them and spayed some rust reformer in places that had rust. It takes about four cans of truck bed coating to get an even finish. It lasts until the snow and salt arrive. By the end of winter they’re looking a little rough. I’m just not willing to spend hundreds of dollars to get them powder coated or bedlined when twenty bucks gets them looking good again for the whole summer season.

Yeah, I powder coated primed/ U-POL Raptor coated by frame sliders.

Powder coating fails because the prep. was NOT according to spec. Spec for ANY powder coating steel is NACE2/ SP10 - near white media blast

The rattle can works- but it's usually not "hardcore" enough for continuous, long term use.
