Let's See Some Softoppers

BedRug was designed to be used in an open bed...not sure why there’d be an issue.

 

LOL. Yes they are nice. I have had them in past trucks and it helps a lot when crawling around in the bed.

 

This is true, but I have to wonder if it were constantly exposed to the elements if it would break down and wear faster than if it was covered; like with a tonneau or cap.

 

Oh, I have no doubt that under a topper or tonneau it would last longer.

 

Yes, and they are definitely nice. Something still to consider. I have to get the SofTopper first. I have the OEM Tacoma Bed Mat, and that works well. Just not very easy to move things around on.

 

Good to know. I installed my full BedRug about a month ago. My bed is currently wide open to Florida sun and rain. Will be adding some type of bed cover in the near future, I’m just undecided between a Softopper or Diamondback.

 

I did seal the inside seams just for a peace of mind. Only water I got inside the cabin came from the corners close to the truck cabin. But some elecyrical putty around the softopper rails and the end of truck bed and that sealed it up nicely. Many days in rain and no issue.

Mind sending me some pictures of where you put the putty? I guess That seals better than silicone or that RTV stuff??

 

I chose the puddy because it is super sticky but easily removable. It is already gone in the pic since I took the rails off my truck, but it put it where the arrow points to. Big chunk molded on the rail going around the truck bed corner. That's where, with the topper, the back flaps meet the side flaps and water trickled in right there.

 

So you put it under the soft topper rails and in the gap between the front portion of the truck bed and side portions?

 

Not under but I put it against the softopper rails, and filling up the gap between the tails and the end of the truck bed. Thats where usually a puddle of rain gets created and dripps down the corner..

 

I've been contemplating a ST for a few months now. I have no desire for a hardtop. What do y'all like/appreciate about the ST? Do you sleep in it during outings or did you still purchase a RTT set-up? Anything you learned after buying it that would be useful knowledge to me? Thanks.

 

Has anyone had any experience camping in the softoppers and bestops and had any problems with accessibility? Such as being able to button up the canopy and getting out all from the inside? I live in western WA and being able to seal it up and then get back out easily in rain will be a must.

 

Or had any condensation issues on the inside?

 

I’ve only slept in my ST once, and I had no issues closing it up, or getting out. I would close the tailgate first then zip down from the inside. I had no issue with condensation either and that’s what I woke up to about low 40 degree weather and everything outside was wet. Hope these are the things you were referring to.

 

KIND OF. Have you ever slept in a tent and have the inside of the tent be wet in the morning? From you breath. If you don't get enough air movement in a tent, Bed, whatever your sleeping in you will be wet in the morning.

 

Oh ok gotcha, well yeah I didn’t seem to have that issue, but maybe because the ST isn’t fully sealed.

 

i assume you havent had any experience with the bestop?
