:rofl:They probably dont even have any undercoating in stock! Wonder if they even have a spraybooth for it built yet, that could be another reason it wasnt mentioned. You Floridians and your wonky dealers hahah

After doing some spring cleaning of the under carriage I noticed a bit of paint peeling and some minor surface rust forming on many of the frame welds. I cleaned them up, painted with epoxy paint and gave the frame a good coat of fluid film. My truck is a 15 with 16k miles that's been garaged and only seen snow once. I don't have much confidence in 2010 being the end of the frame issues.

I live a few towns over from you, just curious what dealer in MA you use and does a great job doing inspections? I'm almost 100% sure my frame will pass this October when my truck reaches the 12-year service date. I will be happy if my truck lasts as long as my 1988 Nissan truck, which was 18 years, but my next truck will be sprayed a minimum once a year will Fluid Film before the salt hits the roads.

If you live in Florida the reason the CRC undercoating wasn't applied is that FL isn't a "cold weather" state, so it doesn't qualify. IMO people living near the ocean should have the undercoating applied, as the frame is exposed to the constant salt spray.

On May 21, 2017, a settlement of claims in a class action lawsuit involving 2005-2010 Toyota Tacoma vehicles regarding frame corrosion was approved. This finally approved class action settlement includes inspection of the customers frame, and if the frames meet or exceed the Rust Perforation Standard based on the court ordered inspection criteria, the frame will be replaced at no cost to the customer. Toyota is currently preparing parts for frame replacement.

This settlement will also include CRC (Corrosion Resistant Compound) application. Toyota is currently preparing parts for CRC application process. Once available, CRC application will be covered under a separate Limited Service Campaign (LSC), and will only be available for vehicles registered in Cold Climate States that pass frame inspection criteria and did not:

    • Previously have the frame replaced and/or
    • Previously had the frame sprayed with CRC under any previous campaign

    Background:
Toyota has received reports that certain 2005-2010 model year Tacoma vehicles operated in specific Cold Climate States ( District of Columbia, CT, DE, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VA, VT, WI and WV) with road salt usage may exhibit more than normal corrosion to the vehicles frame.

I am a tech at Ira Toyota in Danvers, part time as I'm still in the T-TEN program. We usually have a couple frame jobs going on in the shop with the next ones waiting out back. We even store some Taco's over in Topsfield at the new car lot because THERE ARE JUST SO MANY DAMN FRAMES! If it passes we have a really nice spray booth where we CRC coat the frames. The techs do not rush their frame jobs either.

Not biased because ive seem them spend hours going over frames with hammers tapping on sketchy spots or even using needle scalers as well to make sure nothings hiding underneath.

I bought my taco used 2 years ago just about. The frame was replaced prior to my purchasing at Rockingham Toyota in NH as the previous owner lived on the Haverhill/Plaistow border. Cant say how the old one looked but the new frames been under the truck for about 2 1/2 years now and the only place it gets the tiniest bits of surface rust is at the welds, so i touch em up with a wire brush and paint them really good every now and then. After winter i also hand scrub the frame and shoot water down the rails because i do get up to Nh to offroad.

Gonna go out on a limb and say the frame was trashed though. Guy used it for yardwork/lawncare till around 2013. Im gonna assume the original trailer hitch matched the frames texture so im sure it needed a good ole frame job!

Thanks for the advice, I've been keeping my eye out for Springs and Shocks. Any idea if this CL posting is reasonably priced for front springs/shocks?
    https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/pts/d/tacoma-4runner-fj-cruiser/6555783962.html
Not too familiar with different suspension options/setups. Main goal with suspension replacement is extended use before replacement would be required again. I think the CL ad has everything required for front suspension replacement; also believe it would serve as a levelling kit but not positive. If someone could confirm I'd appreciate it.

Will likely do bushings and tie rods as well. Any brands you'd recommend? I've had good luck with Moog's in the past but not sure if others have had success with the Moog brand with Tacomas.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the upper and lower ball joints included with new control arms? If so the Tech mentioned lower control arms are included in the frame replacement. Can anyone that has had their frame replaced let me know if any parts (such as control arms) were replaced along with the frame ?

@JDB 2010 - Where did you buy the new manifold and what was the part #? Trying to find the best price but doesn't look like I'm going to get new for less than $500.

Once my frame swap is complete I will let everyone know if my dealer threw in any additional parts.

Thanks so much for all the help!

I just wanted to add my truck to the list.

I have a 2006 Prerunner SR5 (~ 193,000 miles). In the fall the dealer noted we qualified for leaf spring replacement, which they did. This spring I was getting some vibration under acceleration, took it to an independent mechanic who noted I may qualify for the warranty repair (for prop shaft u-joint?). Anyway, dealer looked at truck and quickly called to tell me my truck qualified for frame replacement. I wasn't expecting that. Well, after a couple weeks waiting for the frame, they replaced it. So far so good. So, brand new leaf springs and brand new frame on a 12 year old truck with nearly 200,000 miles. Yes, Toyota screwed up with this frame debacle, but they are trying to make it right (for the most part)... and I can't imagine what this is costing them.

Good luck to those hoping/waiting for the same!

Just took my 2004 Tacoma in for frame check after my mechanic noticed holes on each side above the rear shock mounts. They found other really rusted areas. The dealer declared it unsafe and gave me a loaner car to drive home!

I will find out in a few days if Toyota will replace the frame or buy the truck back.

Toyota’s “Customer Service Experience” help line was very helpful and said that year had the frame warranty extended out to 15 years from the date it was put into service. 1-800-331-4331

    Yeah.
That's a good price for everything you get, but it will provide some front lift and you may need to do an add-a-leaf in the rear to match things up -- just depends on how much lift you get out of it. Most likely around 2 to 2.5 inches, and it may ride a bit stiff in the front unless you add a bumper/winch. But probably tolerable.

Moog should be fine. The main exception is u-joints, where you should go with Dana/Spicer.

Usually when you buy an aftermarket control arm, it has bushings and ball joint installed. I can't confirm whether the replacement includes the lowers, but you'd still need the uppers.

When I had my truck in for the frame replacement I requested a copy of the parts list. This answered all my questions.

Just found out my 2004 was approved for frame replacement. This is good because I just put $1000 into it!

Same here, mines waiting for the next 6 to 8 weeks. I know I’ve seen it somewhere but can’t find it, is there a list of parts that are replaced as part of the frame swap? I’m going to have them put new shocks and front springs on but want to start planning for whatever else I may need.
