Rear AC plug capabilities

We are in the middle of a rather severe ice storm and I do expect the power to go out. If it does, what can I run off that rear outlet if I absolutely need to?

Anything that requires 400W or less as that’s what the outlet is rated for.

You can look at the back of nearly any electric appliance and you’ll see the Voltage requirements. IF.... you’re thinking a heater or anything like that forget it. They’re 1500W plus. As an example a coffee maker is ~1700W and 100 Watt light bulb is.... well it’s 100W. You get the idea.

No fridge, no freezer, no heaters.

400W is NOT much

So if your appliance lists a certain Amp requirement at 120 Volts you must multiple to get Watts.... again 400 is minimal. Count on keeping your phone charged to order Pizza and not much else.

 

But doesn't the truck have to be running for the inverter to work/make the outlet hot?

 

Yep unless you Mod it... in which case your battery sure won’t last long.

 

I think a small generator would be better suited to the task. This little guy can at least keep your fridge running.

 

Exactly. I used one of those 4 to 5 hours a day, 4 days a week all summer a few years back. They were labeled Chicago electric then I believe. It ticked all summer without an issue. The only maintenance I did was before I even used it I put a decent spark plug in.

Ok, I guess there isn't much I can run off it. Was basically thinking the kettle and coffee maker but those need 1000 and 1500 watts.

 

Propane campstove for the basics. Used safely of course.

Anker battery pack to recharge portable devices, but the truck would recharge it fine.

Got bigger stuff, get a Honda generator. Very quiet, durable.

-Yep. I have a 2000W Honda inverter Gen Set, though at $1000 dollars it’s not a good choice for power outages. But Top choice for camping. You can get a large generator to power your entire home for much much less.

If you do want to power your home or other large devices off your truck there are 5K even 10k inverters that run off vehicles.

Just be aware electricity is Math. Calculate what you need and choose appropriately. No guessing. Do the Math... calculate your requirements (well pumps are normally 220V) and buy the appropriate Gen Set...
