Front Coilovers for 17 TRD??

Hey guys,
So last fall I put in a rough country lift and I'm looking to make some changes.

The front end is just a spacer and I am wondering if putting in a front coilover will help with the performance up front? I also have an AAL from Wheelers OR to put in the rear as I will be putting a fiberglass cap on the truck later this summer. I run a 285/75/16 and had to do some trimming of my front mud flaps to avoid rubbing. Ideally 3" of lift is what I'm after but I'm really just looking for the best performance possible in rugged terrain. Guys at Toy Tec recommended this front coilover based on my budget and needs.

Check these out. They're about the most affordable front coilover I've seen and a few users have said good stuff.

You can also find some Bilstein 5100 Shocks with OME Springs pre-assembled. These are the two options I've been considering.

 

I've actually looked at the Fox 2.0 and that is a great price on a pair of them that you found. It could be a I need to just bite the bullet and pay the money but was hoping to get out of it for under $400...Could be it's not reality and could be not worth it as I definitely spend at least 1,000 miles each year in some really rough terrain. Have you seen these from Rancho?

Yeah I had same thought. There were some reviews from Tacoma owners who were happy with them but hard to know if they actually take their truck offroad...

That billstein 5100 set up looks like it could be a good option...Any reports on ride quality on the Forum? I have stock bumper so no added weight there.

 

If you don't have added weight and don't plan to you can just go with the OME leveling coils. 5100s with 885-886s is probably the most popular lift option on the forum. Tons of people swear by it if you're wanting to OR on a budget.

I'd trust the Eibach's too though. They certainly make good stuff for the tuner scene. Engineered lowering springs and that sort of thing. I'd be interested to see how they ride.

I believe there will be no difference. The spacer lift is for 05-16+. The 2nd gen trucks sit an inch lower than our trucks. The coilover kit is for 16+ and listed as a 2 inch lift.

Worst case scenario you get a little bit of your factory rake back.

 

From what I’ve read that if you use the Bilstein 5100 along with ome coil and set it with too much preload the ride is terrible. I don’t know if you’ll get the 3” you’re after. Also, it you’re going beyond 2.5” with stock uca’s You probably will not get it to align properly. I don’t think the ranch is are height adjustable - just dampening. I think there’s are more or less leveling front to stick rear. The Bilstein 6112 may not be a bad option but is just slightly outside of you budget.

 

With the AAL now in there is a pretty good rake now, have to measure to see how much. I just don't want it to be too high...In a few weeks I will have a fiberglass cap on it which will drop the back a bit.

 

I'm thinking I will go with the Eibac coilover that Toy Tec referenced. Set of them for $464. The spacer in the front is just under 2" now so the Eibac should leave me about the same but with a much nicer ride...I hope. AAL is in and cap is ordered so we are getting closer. Bought a Ranch fiberglass cap which was much less money than a leer or ARE but very good quality.

 

I think you're making a good call OP. Let me know how it goes. I'm very curious and may plan to do the same.
