Hi folks, I love my 2017 Tacoma DCLB TRDOR. I've put a 3" Lift & Sliders and King Suspension and IMHO it looks like it needs disc brakes in the back - like a modern vehicle would have. I saw the kit for $3K, but I'd think it could be done for like a third of that price. I don't want bright red calipers. I just want it to look stock - like it came that way.

    Any ideas?

What’s wrong with the drum brakes?

Even if it cost a 1/3 of that quote, there are far better things to spend money on than the rear brakes.

Probably nothing. That said rear discs are known to provide 0.0000123456 seconds better stopping time and you really need that when you're crawling around some of these malls.

How about installing front drums to get a nice uniform look?

That's a solution in search of a problem. Just leave them as is and save (or invest!) your money.

Pretty sure Tundy rear discs will fit a third gen for about tree fiddy ($350). You will need 17's depending on your backspacing and the calipers.

Rear brakes only do about 25 to 30% of total breaking. There are advantages to both but not usually enough to justify the upgrade. The biggest problem is the rear disc brake upgrade would require an adjustable proportioning valve to equalize the front to rear braking. They arent that big of a deal to adjust but can be tricky to do.

You nailed it. It can get pretty aggressive racing for a parking spot.
