In today's adventures in high mileage vehicle ownership: alternator replacement. It actually started going wonky on the way home from the gym last night. Battery light kept rapidly flashing, voltage would drop then come back up. Literally .25 min from my house the light became solid. I pulled into a grocery store lot just in time for it to die. Thought meh I replaced the alternator summer 2015 so it should be fine. Battery on the other hand has a 2011 manufacturer date on it so it was due. Ran to vatozone just before close in the wife's car. Get back and got the right size but with the posts on the wrong side so the damn cables won't reach....fuck me. Had AAA tow it the .25 min back to my place.

This morning ran to AutoZone and got the correct post orientation battery. Throw it in fires right up but damn battery light is still flashing on/ off irregularly. Throw multimeter on it and it's clearly not working.

Pull alternator get free lifetime replacement from one bought in July 2015. Get home and the threaded portion of the lower double shear bracket has fucked up threads so the lower bolt won't thread onto it... great. Go to another vatozone further away that has the correct alt in stock . Return home and it goes right back in, no issues. Literally probably spent 2-3x the time driving around than it actually took to remove + replace. So lame. Now the FJ is back to purring like an old sewing machine and I've burned ~6 hours of vacation time...

    Old out:

Yeah we are still a one vehicle family. We both work at the same place so that def helps. We both also still have student loans so adding a second car payment doesn’t work yet. I don’t mind doing a $300ish payment for one real nice reliable vehicle, just can’t swing anything else on top

Brave, from my knowledge is chrome with another layer on top. This top layer strips a lot of the tracking and bullshit that chrome allows to appease their advertisers and big website buddies. It should also help with some malware and stuff just because it blocks a lot of the crap that shouldn't't be going on in the background. I am tech dummy tho, so it could be a little different than I am describing...that crazy linux user @replica9000 knows more about it I bet

I keep getting emails about my truck. LOL! Even though I replied back one day and told them I wasn't interested. Oh well!

The load E tires that are coming on my new truck are only 55 lbs each! Those Nittos are heavy sum bishes.

I haven't owned my Tacoma in a year and a half and I still get those letters.

I remember Clarkson ruining a tire, but I don't remember May damaging his. Been a couple of years since I saw the episode, though.

Never did understand why they didn't get a Power Wagon: it really would have been the perfect truck for that sort of exercise.

I was tired of the fake virus popup ads I was getting with Chrome. Some of them were trying to download apk files to install.

Send them my way. Tell them I'll take $25k for my 07 with a low ~195k miles. Only driven to church on Sundays by a little old lady. I've got title in hand too so that cuts down on paperwork!

Yeah, Power Wagon vs Raptor would have been more similar than Raptor vs Diesel Silverado.

Even the 3/4 tons that I'm looking at have had either 18's or 20's. It's absurd.
I think that May was distracted by the power numbers on the diesel.

Time to get another 5 gal of diesel on my way home! At this point I probably could have ordered another 100 gallons and still been low in the end.

Are you heating your house 5 gallons at a time?
