Gotta love Home Depot. Ordered all my roofing material in store Friday. Said I'd pick it up today at 5 since that's the time that was easiest for me and them. I get there at 6 and the order hasn't even been picked yet. What a cluster f*** having to basically pick the order with them. Only good thing was they guy helped me load 50 bundles of shingles.

This is the kind of stuff that is making me seriously consider a 4x4 extra height Mercedes Sprinter van

All that crap was for one small kitchen cabinet install on the weekend

Handy as hell. BIL had one for his work. One of his co-workers T-boned a car pulling out in front of him. They decided to switch everybody to the Fords being safer as the guy will never fully recover. Not a Ford fan, but I am a fan of safety:thumbsup:

The Metris vans are very nice, a friend of mine has one, he does drywall and can pretty much load an entire job into one van, some 50+ sheets.

For some reason I always thought those were more expensive than they are. Still expensive for a new one and doesn't get the shelving or anything but still not to bad overall

My master plan is to make tool storage "modules" that are basically like cabinets that gang together and attach to a mounting bracket system in the van and are removeable

That way I could make a set of vacation modules too so we could take out my work modules and put in camping modules so we could use van for extended road trips in the summer

Be awesome to have a small stove and sink combo too. Be nice to be able to wash up on trips and at work sites!

That does sound like a similar setup to how a friend had his setup though. Im not 100% sure how he had everything attached but it was all modular. Had the same attachment setup in his garage so was quick and easy to swap things out.

Sounds like a French cleat wall idea could work well for that. I’ve been working on building one in my basement to try to help me stay organized. You could always add a screw to keep it from bouncing off if you hit a bump. Then you could build custom boxes for all kinds of stuff, install and remove quickly, and have a cleat wall at home that you can hang them from when you don’t need them in the van.

Why not just buy a 5x8 enclosed trailer for your gear? You could even hook it up for OBA. A mobile workshop of sorts.

Not really interested in a trailer plus it wouldn't work as well for my multi use idea for the van

    Dryer vent update:

(and this is why I fucking hate incompetent people)

Dryer vent installer says he did the crimp on site. Says its to make it easier to fit the hose over... Also admitted to putting the 4" rigid pipe into the 2x4 wall cavity. "the pipe becomes oval" he says... I tell him its buckled... he argues. I send him photo. He temporarily shuts up. He tells builder that he'll have to rip out the entire wall. Neither have come up with an answer yet as to who is going to do what and who is going to pay for it. Im certainly not.

Brought misaligned light/faucet to builders attention. By his reaction, he's never ever even noticed this kind of thing before. I just wonder how many other homes he's done this to...

    Now... Next Question:

Dryer vent hose. Whats the best thing to use? That old aluminum accordion type flexible stuff? (I dont like it, gets holes too easily). Rigid but flexible (that stuff thats crimped to bend where you want it to). Or some other kind that Im not even aware of? Im asking since the installer goofed and says its for easy install of the flexible hose. I was wanting to install a shallow and rigid type assembly so that the dryer could be pushed closer to the wall. His crimping does not allow for any other type of hose to be attached...

Use rigid galv duct , not the corrugated stuff

It is fine if the pipe is oval

It’s not oval (not anymore, at least) This is looking up the wall, in the direction the lint would travel - and collect into the crevices.

I wouldn't be concerned about the waves in the pipe in your pic , but I was actually just stating that an oval rigid duct is fine if they need to squash it to fit into a 2x4 wall
