Elon Musk just cited over-automation as a major failure of Tesla's Model 3 production line, and has been backing it out to be more hands-on human driven.

Why is it racist when Americans look out for Americans but when other nations lookout for thier own interest its perfectly fine?

I remember that article too. Parts of the truck were still moved via pulleys, rope, and manpower. My 09 was just as reliable as any other Tacoma.

This wouldn't apply to Toyota since their plants aren't union now and only one ever was, which was NUMMI in Fremont, CA, the old Tacoma factory. Perhaps the quality then could have been blamed on unionization.

The only meaningful comparison that might be drawn was NUMMI initially was building the US Hilux, e.g. the Toyota Truck from 1992 to 1995 along side the original Japanese factory. I had a Japanese-made 1991 and the quality on that was excellent. Even at 300K tough miles the interior didn't have any squeaks and the body panels mostly still lined up.

That was my baseline for Toyota and truth is my California-made Tacoma at 79K rattles and buzzes much worse than my old truck did, so my sample size of 2 indicates there's a major drop in quality in domestic Toyota factories.

My 01 NUMMI has 237K miles, and it is in mint condition. One of the best quality Toyota products ever.

this might have been taken out of context

nobody is saying it is wrong to lookout for fellow americans

this was more about what tacoma factory is pushing out a vehicle of better quality and less about support the local factory over the overseas factory (in this case over a border factory)

I am going out on a limb here, but guessing that Texas trucks were made by Mexicans.

well quality starts with upper management defining the quality strategy and insuring it is flowed down to all managers, supervisors and line workers.....if not, then its a management problem......if a few mistakes are not taken care of by good corrective actions, then they will continue to happen and although they are here and there, they can be prevented if properly analyzed.....the failure of manufacturing managers, supervisors and line workers is, that all too often they do not have the “time” to perform proper failure analysis and implement proper corrective actions for processes and testing, which leads to repeated issues.....remember the 15-cent o-ring on the space shuttle....simple mistake but look at the outcome....catastrophic.......And quality control is not the force to "stop and correct” issues.......quality assurance is responsible for data based on rejections to show trends in areas so that actions can be taken to improve......remember, many companies are now having quality inspectors reporting directly to manufacturing which prevents a multitude of conflicts of interest......so bottom line, if companies don't properly train employees, provide leadership in quality strategies and implement the continuous improvement activities, then they are to blame....however, unions that support the inferior work performance of employees and allow that employee to stay on the job are to blame........so pick your poison.....either way, its the whole workforce that is responsible for a quality product

As a born and raised Texan, I tend to agree with you. San Antonio was around 60% hispanic when I lived there.

Who would you blame for low quality FCA/GM/Ford products? Management? Employees? Union? Low cost parts?
