Nice never heard of em, not having to do risers is nice but I plan on building up to 13 cards per board. I see the octominers are going for $200. Asus b250s are down to $150.

I may have asked before but what OS do you use or plan to use? I am on SMOS but also have ethOS that I may try out

I like 8 per a build myself. Just seems like a good number for a rig. 6 or 8. But i like spreading out and not focusing to much on anything one coin. When something is worth it just a matter of swapping every rig to it.

The octominer is just nice cause its 200 bucks for the board, 8 gpus, and a basic intel cpu all in one package. Just add ram and either a msata drive or usb drive. Its not the most "budget" oriented board by any means but compared to other options its a pretty good deal. $100 for a mobo, $50 for a cpu, then buying risers.

I use windows 10 personally. I tried SMOS but dont like the fact you have to pay to use it. Its a good platform but it never really did anything for me that i couldnt do for free on W10. I tried HiveOS and if i were to swap that would probably be the one i swapped to. Its free for 3 rigs. But i also had a couple old SSD's (60gb sized) laying around so it was easy enough to just use them

How many cards can you run off windows 10? I heard there was a limit but looks like that limit has been removed recently based on a quick google search.

I just saw the ready to plug in Octominer for just under $4k, that is not bad at all!

I want to say they raised the limit last spring? Then upped it again in the fall update? Something like that at least. I want to say theres something along the lines of you can have 13 regular gpu's but the remaining have mining specific (the p104 types). But I could be wrong since was never interested in that many lol

little late for that now lol

For next year, if I ever do cash out I will pay taxes on my earnings

The IRS states that the character of a gain or loss from the sale or exchange of a virtual currency depends on whether it’s a capital asset in the hands of a taxpayer

Until that money is in my possession then I won't claim it

That makes sense, if the money stays in an exchange whether its a “cash balance” or tied up in coin, it doesnt need to be considered? Only when its pulled from the exchange to a wallet or bank account?

You need to cash in $20k before reporting to tax agency I believe.

I'm still not sure how taxes will work. Surely will need to declare gains when selling back into fiat. I think I read on irs.gov that even trading one crypto for another (like kind exchange) is a taxable event.
