Sorry Lloyd. I couldn't find a guide or video on boot replacement for our trucks. I just pulled mine off and did it. My Taco is my first IFS 4x4, and the last time I replaced a CV boot was a long time ago, and it was one of those PITA split boots. I am sure @loosnut and @diabetiktaco are familiar with them.

Read it while in traffic on the cross Bronx this morning. Good read. The biggest problem, if it’s really considered a problem at all are the people who post up pictures asking if this is considered overlanding. Regardless, I continue to live my life and enjoy my truck either way.

 

I’d get an oem steering rack out of a wrecked taco. Went this route myself a while back. They suck to swap but ya kinda need to steer the thing.

 

Hey fellas, regular lurker here looking for confirmation on an issue with the rig - I'm certain I need to tear into the front end to do hubs/bearings. As you can see, there's quite a bit of movement in the driver side that seems to be isolated in the hub (I still need to check the lower ball joint) and a fair bit of noise out of the passenger side.



I've always felt the driver CV had too much slop in it too at the diff and didn't know if any of you fellas had any experience with the ECGS bushing? I figure while I'm in there I ought to do it but I have never noticed any of the symptoms of the rumbles or vibes, just what seems to be quite a bit of slop. Thoughts?

I figured you have had the pleasure of dealing with the split boots before. They even sell those things anymore?

 

There’s boot kits from China. They come with grease and everything. Never had an issue with them but I still wouldn’t use it on my truck.

Driver wheel bearing is shot - You didn’t do the push/pull method on the passenger side but if it has any amount of play in it that indicates a worn bearing.

I’ve put the ECGS bushing in two Tacoma’s i’ve owned which cured the needle bearing issue.

 

Both my trucks front wheels do not spin freely but I don't believe theres any play in them, could that be a wheel bearing issue? One of a few issues Ive been putting off..
