I agree, I have a ‘18 off-road and it hasn’t given me problems. Knock on wood. Made a 500 mile round trip and although the low end is something that could really be worked on. I haven’t had much of a problem with the tranny hunting for gears. Maybe they resolved it in the ‘18 or i got lucky? ‍♂️

I also use the Beavertail. One tip I may suggest if anybody considers the beaver tail, do to a sloppy, somewhat loose fit in the receiver, I ended up covering the receiver end of the Beavertail with a piece of 2in. Diameter bicycle inner tube that I procured from a local bike shop, out of their garbage. On my wife’s forerunner I ended up stretching two pieces over. On my Tacoma for a snug fit though I ended up having to do three layers eliminating any wobble or rattle on my tacoma. Kind of like a condom!

Had one and sold it to go with this. Less intrusive for reversing into parking spots. Same basic function. Was going to put grip tape on my beavertail but never did. Seemed a little slick when wet.

I do love the D ring and the look but I went with the Beavertail just for a little more somethin somethin hanging out the back for the schmuck that rolls into the back not paying attention. I always did run with the trailer hitch out back but have whacked my shins a couple times so far no issues with the Beavertail in that category

Always good to have a condom handy when inserting into Beavertail.

On the serious note....I’m running a tube step on my recover hitch that matches the step rails. It came with a cinch that stops the rattling, but I don’t use it due to wanting ability to quickly change out for hitch balls and such.

I may use your inner tube idea instead.

    Thanks.
