I concur, but it may be throttle tweaks coupled with quicker downshifts causing us to feel like we lost low end torque. I seriously doubt anyone lost any torque going from 1.03 to 1.04.

I like the low speed operation: tip in, idle, lack of surging MUCH MUCH better with 1.04 (shifting is much better too), but the highway driving was better with 1.03 IMO.

Overall 1.04 was a huge upgrade for me. A couple small tweaks to upshift and downshift points would make it perfect.

That’s why I got this HPS intake tube and put a K&N filter in stock box. I noticed a difference but nothing crazy but more of a throttle response.

Im more concerned about how clean it is compared to the rest of the engine bay. He should probably get a snorkel instead.

AutoAnything and I know they have 20% off and free shipping often. Also, I remember in my 2nd gen taco I removed the canister. I’ll have to look into that with the 3rd gen. And most importantly it gave my mbrp exhaust a stronger sound in the higher rpms. Patiently waiting to get my OVT.

S mode does not work like a manual. S mode is a top gear limiter. What we need is a way to control upshifts (like S mode does), and also control downshifts. These Tacomas should easily be able to actually accelerate in 5th gear at 70 mph going against the wind, instead of downshifting to 4th.

Or just take it in the ass trading the damn thing off on a Tundra.

Uuuhhhh, I was driving 73 with cruise set into a 20 mph headwind. The only time it downshifted was when going up long hills. It dropped to 5th when I topped the hill and started going down, it shifted back to the 6th and TC locked.

A regear is a must for these truck period!

You are correct. Maybe I didn’t communicate it correctly.

Matt confirmed this with me in an email.

I think we can do a lot more testing and find the true limits of the 104 tune.

Yesterday I calculated 15.8mpg driving in D ECT off.

Today I calculated 17.3mpg driving in S6 ECT off.

Same route driven around 168 miles each day.

But what do I know, sleep, drive work, drive, sleep. And I’ll keep testing :)

there are different shift points for :
1-4 S mode which standard limits to 4th
    D mode
    ECT mode
    S ECT
    4wd etc

for the people who have the gears holding for longer than they want it will be an option like I mentioned before

I am starting to see it smooth out like it did with 1.03. 5 days in and I really like how the tune feels.

First drive this morning on 1.04/91. Seems smoother but I think I miss the more aggressive tip in.

Someone should start another poll to collect data on like vs no like of tip-in and if you are stock vs big tires vs bigger 33”+ tires and weight

So much is going to be up to interpretation and even driving scenarios. I drive Mon-Fri in the city so I really appreciate the smoother tip in and the ease of slower driving - the torque is still there and it MOVES but I can also be easy with it when I need to. Couldn't really be "easy" with it on the prior tip in - not to say it wasn't fun, but you couldn't really "baby" it and when you're surrounded by cars that can be a necessity at times.

Plus I can only imagine the smoother tip-in has to be easier on the drivetrain w/o quite so much "instant power" coming from the slightest touch on the throttle. I can see some folks wanting an in-between perhaps but I think a lot of that is going to get to the custom tuning

Agree. I think it's best if the community just lets Mat finish the updates (I.e. MT since AT just got the drop, and any real fixes that need to happen for the AT 1.04...not gripes about things he changed due to popular demand) and then everyone else who is whining about wanting a return to something that was present on a previous map can return to that previous map or take advantage of custom tuning when the option is available. Constantly going back and forth with demands for this and that because not everyone has the same modifications and driving experiences/desires has got to make it a headache for Mat and draws out the process of providing a finished product

I like to think that these base maps are better suited for a vehicle that is assumed to be otherwise stock. Will there be benefits for people with their 33s and 35s and 400lbs of armor and desire for the throttle to feel like a Sprint Booster on race 9? Sure. But you'll simply never make everyone happy if you make alterations based on requests made my people with a significantly modified vehicle. People may not think armor and tires are significant, but they absolutely change the driving experience

Lets let Mat do his job to finish up this first project

I agree with you. After breaking in the tune a bit I’m totally sold on 1.04. Can’t believe the mileage I’m getting with my lift, tires and weight. I averaged another 19.1 on the way to work this morning in traffic. The smoother tip in does seem to be showing its true colors and the truck definitely has power when it needs it.

Agree. Aggressive tip in + 1.04 AT would be amazing. In email communication, Mat said there would be an aggressive 1.04 tune in the future. I suspect this will probably be after MT's tune.
