Thanks for the detailed my response. My kids are a bit older (7 and 9), so I’m thinking of a platform for them in the bed of the truck (downstairs). Assuming I pull the trigger.

 

Remember the overcab area is available, even a half deck over the hole will provide enough room to sleep someone 5' or shorter on it.

The first platform sat proud of the sleep deck by about 1/8". The tent was the thicker olive colored one that is much stiffer. The tent body was pinned between the middle hoop and the forward edge of the platform. 1200mi across southern Utah off-road took its toll.

 

but yea, what was the overall thickness of the first sleeping platform? and how thick on the new one? Would routering off the edges on the platform facing the center of the vehicle have helped?

 

It's about .125" thicker than the gap between the support rail and the sleep deck.

New one is thinner I'd assume, and still in the box.

Routing the edge could or could not solve the issue. We were running a bedsheet folded over the edge to give a bit of buffer after the holes formed.

Jut got my prinsu rack today, I cut that sucker after 2nd attachment point. it will be used to carry renogy 100w solar panel for house battery.

 

Did you buy a new one and just cut it down?

I'm really annoyed because I thought the rack for the habitat was available you just had to call to order, but when I tried that... no, they said its in development... wtf, how much development does it take to just take the rear half off the double cab rack? Not to mention they already made one for 3rd gen and it's the same damn thing for 2nd gen. What the hell prinsu? /rant

If I find a used one local I'm just going to jump on that and hack it. Thought about going the k9 or Front Runner route, but it seems like those are way more expensive, and still a custom job.

Edit: Also, I'm sorry for my part in spreading misinformation about the Prinsu rack being available for the Habitat, I'll go back and edit my post where I said that.

 

I bit the bullet and bought a new bare alum one and cut that sucker. I also smoothed out some of the rough edges to make it a bit more hand friendly when fumbling with the panel. Shit ive wasted more on less in south america. how dare you misinformation man... haha this place is full of it.

 

I'm just salty because I waited so long to go through with ordering one, only to get shot down. Also, I blame Prinsu for the misinformation because I was told it could be done a year ago:

I hear ya, when I looked online it said cabrack was in stock, so I called and told they were not in stock about 2weeks out. I told them I planned on cutting it in half because of the habitat they said they had one coming out soon with no def date. I didnt want to wait for a product that I could produce myself. may change the front dam to a taller one to hopefully push wind over solar panel.

 

You could just hang the solar panel on the side of the truck and park with the side facing south and even make a bracket that allows it to be adjusted anywhere from 45 degrees to 90 degrees.

The main consideration w/ solar is whether or not the panel will be in any shade at all. If the answer is yes, it's better off the truck.

 

thanks, iv been running solar for years on my home and vech. the rack is for panel transport, i have found that 20 ft of cable works to move to sunny spot with min voltage drop.

 

I ended up stalling one of the wood chunks at a bow joint.

Anyone know the diameter of the dowel in there?

 

Ended up going by Juniper to check out their Habitat. Guess they're not up to speed on the Goose Gear, they didn't have any yet. Habitat was a bare unit, although the light switchesin the vertical corners were nice. They did have some new folks in there working and they didn't have answers for any questions really. Was kinda disappointing but since I don't have the 10g in pocket I figured I got time to have them answered by someone.

 

I dont off hand but when mine busted first night of a wk long trip i duct taped that sucker. didnt really work so we ended up in hotels and 2 grand more spent than i had planned. not a happy ending. anyways movin on, Went to AT and they replaced with new one black plastic or rubber cant remember. I would call and see if they can send ya some

 

what broke?

 

If you look at your bows, you'll see a split with two pop rivets. There is a chunk of wood in there holding the shape... they snap when too much force is on them. Mine was caused by someone else trying to fold the tent up.

 

Hmm, I'll have to take a look. How many nights have you guys been spending in the habitat?
