God it really warms my heart to hear all of y'all bitching about the cold and snow just like I have been since January!

Wife is off from school this week, so she did a project with the help of her dad, that she's been wanting to do for a while. We have a raised ranch, with a lot of red brick around the fireplace opening downstairs. She's been seeing people that "paint" it with a 50/50 mix of paint and water, to give it a lighter look. This is the result:

Bunch of whiners. It's April in New England. We've had feet of snow on the 19th in years past; this is no big deal.

 

Well it rained/sleeted/snowed the whole 5 miles. Oh well, only the first mile sucked. Then I was warmed up and fine for the rest.

That looks awesome! I like that a lot more than the red brick.

 

Yeah... the red brick made it look really "dated". Honestly it didn't bother me, but it obviously bothered her to the point that she wanted to change it, or hide it. Now she wants to get a full mantle, and some trim around the brick, to "finish it off".

 

Looks nice if you like white, I suppose. I've always liked the look of red brick around a hearth, though.

And you need to change the paint on the walls, now, to offset the brickwork.

 

Yeah, she's already talking about re-painting the walls with a different color.

 

This part of the house is her 'Truck' . Just say 'Sure, do what you want' haha!

Just this part??? NAW!!!!!!! She's talking about changing the backsplash in the kitchen, possibly changing the shower flooring in the master bath, and expanding the shed a bit because of all the outdoor kid stuff we have (which that I don't mind since the shed is "mine").

You know what would really go well there??? Well, in the room actually??? A PINBALL MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!! I've been trying to push that for a long time, but no luck... yet.

 

Light grey on the wall color. White trim around the floor and then a large, wooden slab above the stove.

Yep, that's the color for the walls she's talking about. And she wants to do trim around the brick up the wall, and on the ceiling as well.

As far as the wooden slab, she wants to do a full mantle, meaning, one of those that encases the insert, if that makes sense.
