Electronic collars have different levels of stimulation.

There's light stim that is basically "hey stop that" which is the correct usage. You can turn it up to where its painful, but it's counter productive because the pain is associated with the thing it's reacting to, not the reaction.

For example, you're on a walk, and your dog starts barking at another dog on the other side of the street. If you turn the collar all the way up, the dog thinks that the other dog is causing the painful shock since it's "new" and so is the shock. You're only training your dog to be aggressive when it sees another dog.

It's the same thing as you snapping your fingers to get your kids attention versus beating them. Same device, different uses.

It is interesting that you acknowledge that your kids misbehaving is a fault of your own, but when it's a dog it's the fault of the dog and not the owner.

Wasn't you I was referring to at all.

So small shock to listen is okay, teaches the dog that when called return. In the same sense as invisible fences, cross the line get a zap.

Operant conditioning is not applicable so pain compliance is used.

But where is the line drawn? How is the use of an airsoft on an unruly animal to remotely alter and fix behaviors?

Dog runs from master, enters back yard, gets a zap on the ass from a plastic pellet, runs off.

Next time dog runs into back yard, zap on ass, runs off, wash, rinse, repeat.

At some point the dog will associate pain with entering the forbidden area, just as the zap of a collar does.

I think you have to pay a bunch extra to get your Master or Mistress to dress up in a uniform.

Just wait until a neighbor sees you pointing an airsoft rifle at a dog then calling the cops saying you are pointing a rifle around your suburban back yard.

You can't accidentally hit it in the eye and blind it with a zap collar would be something that really separates the two methods. Forgive my lack of knowledge on airsoft - how accurate are they and can they break the skin? When the dog is romping through the yard can it be accurately zapped in the ass without risk of unintentional permanent harm?

I can't figure out what he was trying to do. He moves left then right. Was he trying to set up some big drift move across the highway onto the exit? Maybe that's what the passenger was recording?

My dad used to have a bloodhound that the collar set on high wouldn't faze him. He had so much extre skin under his neck the collar didn't contact properly. If you put a shock collar and a regular collar together and put it around his chest it worked. Stopped the dog from chasing elk and to chase bear and mt lion instead. As for the pain inflicted from them yes they do hurt. I was the guinni pig to see if it was the collar or the dog.

Looks like that's what he's trying to do. Car is a BMW. Maybe he's trying to copy Gorgi.

You're the same person that was upset with a one of your son's child care classmates saying pew pew and how that kids dad set a bad example.

Now you're talking about shooting an innocent pet with an airsoft rifle for being in your yard instead of being an adult.

I've been the adult for 2yrs, so has everyone else in the neighborhood, the city, and the local PD.

As these methods have not worked, it's time to help him train his animals to stay away.

And with that, I'll disengage from this discussion.
