I live in Olde Towne Portsmouth VA.

This place is across the street from where I work.

There’s several other older houses in the neighborhood including ones where Generals of the Revolutionary War were housed and entertained.

It’s pretty cool to walk around and read the history

They probably misheard. You still pay income tax, but if you personally own a property and collect rent it is not subject to social security and Medicare tax like a normal paycheck. It is still subject to end of year taxes. It's the reason you will see corps renting property from another corp owned by the same person or they just personally own the property and charge their own business rent. Just a smarter way to run the money through your hands, also provides a layer of protection if the company gets sued.

Of course the HoA has control, that's why we pay the fees. HoA has the power to place a fee lien on the home if the owner is not complying with the rules. Simple. I dont see anything wrong with his complaint nor how he worded it.

I love HoAs. Amazing you have an HoA that can and will do nothing after posting rules and paying HoA fees. Whats the point?

    I'm not following?

The HOA in our neighborhood does impose fines and liens on people breaking rules. But we can only do that if they are doing it on their property or in the communities common areas. We give them 30 days to fix it, if they don't we fine them. If the fine isn't paid, a lien goes on the property.

His complaint was people parking on the street. The HOA can't do anything about it because the street is not community or homeowner property. The streets are owned by the town therefore the town is responsible to enforce traffic laws. But the guy parking on the street is not breaking any laws because the town doesn't have any restrictions stating you can't park vehicles or trailers on the street.

EDIT: All we could do was ask the person to move their trailers to the designated lot in the community which we did and he said no. There is nothing else we can do at that point.

No such place. Not far from me is a development of million dollar and up homes. One of them is rented out on air bnb. Gangster types from the hood are renting it, charging $100 pp, and throwing pool parties there with hundreds of hood rats showing up. There have been multiple mutual aide police call outs to break up these parties.

So now I am not following :)

The HoA rules state you must park trailers in a designated lot for community members and he refuses to do so. Is that not seen as a violation?

What I’m gathering is that if the trailer was parked on his property, then they could take action since it’s against the rules and they have power. In the street, it’s not technically breaking any rules. It’s a loophole.

    Randy got it.

It is a rule to park the trailer in the designated lot but that rule can only be enforced if it is parked on their property. The streets are town property therefore if they park on the street, we cant do shit about it. Loophole and he knows it.

What ever happened to bringing your neighbor a beer and just asking him if he can park his truck somewhere else?

Moved into my house, keep in mind, the house needed work when it was sold to us and will continue to need work until it catches fire or until we learn to materialize money just by thinking about it.

    Ok so anyway...

We move in the lawn is dead, the sprinkler system is shot...its fine I'll get to it. 2 weeks go by, the neighbor leaves a note on our door to water our trees that divide our property. I go outside and take a quick look, the trees are clearly on her property, heck even the shoddy divider wall can clearly illustrate this. I walk over and knock on occasion for the next 3 days to tell her this...no answer. I then get a letter in the mail from the HOA to water our lawn and trees. I told them our situation so the lawn gets a pass, but they trees don't belong to us. Not my responsibility, end of story.

2nd day we moved it, neighbor (older lady) behind us shakes the dividing fence showing that it will fall any moment and that WE should fix it. She then continues to demonstrate....

So these arent the worst stories, but here are my two cents. I don't live in a dump, just an older house poorly kept.

Yep I totally agree with a neighborly approach at first. If all else fails you gotta be the A-hole sometimes.
I think we've re-established a good relationship since they have been respectful of the parking. Of course I know it is a public street and nobody has a right to it. But most of my neighbors have multiple vehicles and regularly use the spot in front 9f their house.
I would much rather park in the driveway but I know they'll just take over the street parking and instead of.looking out my front window at my truck, there will be some old scrapper sitting there.:annoyed:

I am fortunate that the homes on my street and in the cul de sac on our street all maintain their homes, lawns and park in their driveways. It is a weird development. You go two streets over and it is a completely different story.

Plenty of development is Cali just like that. Well kept neighborhoods, new cars parked in driveways, neighbors walking outside to talk to eachother with dogs off leashes. Walk past the In-N-Out, it's Mad Max.

Owning/living in 2 different houses... Have good neighbors and bad neighbors. Neighbors are actually better in the less expensive area that I own my home. Neighbor across the street was a dick when we moved in and threatened to kill me because my girlfriend parked her car in front of his house but has apparently calmed down since then and waves when we go by. Next door neighbor has always been nice and says hi every time we see him.

Neighbors at the girlfriends house are completely different. Guy next to us starts his loud diesel truck at 7:30 every morning.. continues to just let it run for 15-20 minutes before leaving for work. Neighbor 2 down from us yelled at me for letting our dog poop in OUR yard... meanwhile she lets her dog shit in their yard for a week before going around and picking it up. Neighbor across the street fights outside with his wife/girlfriend all the time. Other neighbors seem cool but it's really these 3 that ruin it for us. Her house is the one we pay the HOA at as well..
