It happens. I still loved it though. I follow it on Carfax and it's still on the road with almost 150k miles now. It was a good rig, just not great. Same story with my taco.

Eh, I wanted the truck, and knew they'd fix it all. The only truck with this spec and color I found on a lot around here, it was what I wanted.

Toyota does not make the seats, they just install them, probably should not have got past QC.

I have a friend that worked for Toyota QC. No longer with the company. I asked him about this exact issue when I first got my VIN/build slot when I ordered my Tacoma. Here's what he said:

"I looked over the quality reports. Although the Texas plant was initially better than the Baja plant, after about 4 months they became equally good. The main problem early on was the shift logic for the 6 speed auto - flair on gears 2-3 and too much shifting. Should be fixed with a new program. The other common issue plagues pretty much all Toyotas and all modern cars: Voice Recognition and Bluetooth pairing. Neither are show stoppers. Everything else looks pretty good!"

I'm sure that was the Rev 1 TSB - that email he sent me was from the spring of 2016.

I cannot understand what automatic transmission shift logic or voice recognition has to do with production quality between the 2 plants.

Missing context is my question was both about the differences between plants, and whether or not they had ironed out any early production issues.

Toyota enjoys a massive 90% reduction in labor cost compared to US auto workers by manufacturing the Tacoma in Tijuana Mexico.

Do they pass the 90% savings in labor cost onto the buyer? Tacoma's made in Mexico should cost less since the average Mexican auto worker is only making $2-$3 an hour compared to $23-$25 an hour in the US.

i will pay the same price for better quality though.......
one can argue the san antonio truck should cost less based off quality insufficiencies perhaps...

Curious, if Mexican workers make $2-$3 an hour, what do Japanese workers make? I want to see using your labor cost analysis if my Lexus LS600hL and LX570 are overpriced or not. Their quality are fantastic.

Don’t forget the shipping and import fees associated with brining those vehicles back over state side

What would you estimate, $3,000 per vehicle?

How much to ship Taco from MX to USA?

I haven’t a clue. Toyota being such a large company and shipping so much stuff I’m sure they payed as little as possible. It’s gonna be significantly less than a normal joe blow trying to ship something from japan to the US. Shipping rail car is pretty cheap especially when your shipping so much. The only added cost on that is the expense from the plant to the US storage lot, then it should be close to the cost of shipping the trucks out of Texas.
