I would like to pick your guys (and rebecca's but not really) brains about suspension real quick. With the addition of the HC rear that's coming this summer I was thinking it might be time to add a leaf to my dakars. I know wheelers sells an independent leaf addon so that's what I might go with. I would rebuild the leaf pack while I'm in there (regrease it all and make sure all the plastic inserts are intact.

My question is - my rear shocks are Kings R/R that were spec'd out for the dakars (according to DSMS) - would the addition of a leaf raise the rear too much?

You'd honestly have to break it down, cycle without shocks and measure. Or try and measure travel as much as possible with the leaf packs assembled (but no shocks) and maybe modify bumps accordingly with a little buffer

 

Curious to hear the answers here. I'm also looking at suspension. Trying to find something that'll be comfortable on-road, capable off-road, and has about 3" of lift.

 

Rebecca might be able to help with the grease and work on your back end, heard she has the touch and right tool for the plastic insertion your lacking.

 

Found 4 places that came up under vinyl wrapping on Google, so shot off some quote requests.

 

I'd say that because the mainspring of your Dakar pack is the same that cycling it is not going to show you anything. The distance they travel is going to be the same. Since the Kings were already built for your particular springs than they should be totally fine. Adding the AAL is not going to change any of that. It will only help with added weight

 

Do second gens have the mounting stud at the top of the leaf pack or bottom? If bottom it'll increase the amount of droop needed, if at the top it'll reduce the amount up travel for the shock slightly ( slightly ~ thickness of AAL)

It's at the top. I don't think the thickness of the leaf is going to be anything he needs to worry about. Plus he's got Wheelers bump stops on his u-bolt flip kit
